I got a 1999 F350 PS, engine stumbles intermittantly when wipers are on.
Checked codes, P0344, CPS circuit internittant error.
Changed the CPS today but it did not cure the problem, although it seemed to happen less often.
I've spent about 3 hours reading through the different forums here and have only come across one thread that mentioned this exact symptom.
Most likely the CPS. the frequency the wipers put off sometimes is enough to mess with the CPS. if u get ahold of a grey one it probably wont do that. mine did the same thing untill then
some one may chime in and give more info. you should have a recall on this as well
My truck is doing exactly the same thing. This is the third cps since the problem started and nothing has changed. It runs great untill it starts to rain, and also stumbles occasionally when it is dry and I hit the windshield washer.
there were quite a few threads with the same problem about a year or so ago..not positive about the out come..but at one point the CPS was to blame...with the new CPS it is posable to get another bad one..could be a chaffed wire in the steering column..here is one https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...e-stumble.html
Have any of you had your windshield replaced? My wife's Expedition had a windshield replacement and there was a tiny leak down the passenger compartment side of the fire wall. It would get wet when it rained and all kinds of weird things would happen.
My windshield has not been replace since I have owned the truck and this problem did not start until recently. I will pull the codes and maybe try a new cps again.
I did crawl under the dash and check for anything wet, found nothing. I tried shaking the wiring harness while idling to duplicate the symptom, nothing.
Yesterday after putting in the new CPS I took it on 10mi trip, pushing the wiper handle in to cycle the wiper blades, in the duration of the trip it only stumbles 3 times. Whereas with the old CPS on the same trip it stumbled 20x.
I gonna check the air gap for the CPS today with a depth micrometer, If I remember correctly the gap is supposed to be .020 to .030.
And here another symptom, I don't know if its related or not, but sometimes I can hit the side of the driver side fender near the headlight or the headlight itself and the engine will die just like turning the key off.
After all my research yesterday I think I will check the IDM and related wiring harness today also.
Is the wire that runs down to CPS a shielded cable?
I have the same problem with my truck. It only stumbles when it rains. I never connected it with the windshield wipers though. I also have noticed after I drive my truck I get water on the ground by the passenger door like HKusp said. This never happened before. I haven't noticed any water getting inside the truck I will check that today. I am glad I am not the only one having this problem. Now lets put our heads together and figure this out.
That water maybe from A/C condensation.
I picked up a grey CPS from ford and installed it, that seems to have solved the problem.
I haven't driven it very much since I installed the grey CPS. I took the bed off and I am building a flat bed to go on in its place. Hopefully towards the end of the week I'll get it back on the road.

I went and had my sensor changed as well. I have not driven my truck much since. I think I will go out tomorrow and test it.
I thought it was the AC condensation as well but my AC was not on. can it still make condensation when it is not on?
First, the AC compressor is on in every position except vent only (one click to the left of off), off, and floor heat only. In every other switch position, the compressor runs.
I'm wondering if the wiper motor is going bad causing electrical noise in the PCM. I've seen the truck stumble/stall with my HID headlights due to them causing noise. Check the ground, and if that doesn't help, I'd see about replacing the motor. Remember, the motor is mounted right next to where the PCM is mounted, so all those wires run right next to it. They could easily pick up a noisy wiper motor causing interference in the PCM's signaling.
