Hello guys,I just purchased a 01 Ex that has a light hit in the front.I have done the shearch already but want to know excatly what I need for the 05 conversion. Please tell me if I am missing any parts .thanks
bumper,grill,headlights,bumper,header panel,bumper brackets...will I need a new radiator support.
I think the job of putting the grille and bumper on will be easier with the rad support. I just don't like the idea of using tie wraps to hold the grille down.
For the head lights, you need Metri-pack 150 connectors or one of the aftermarket pigtails.
Radiator support is not the correct term. Header panel is the fiberglass piece that is being talked about.
The '05 header panel is around $140. Well worth it considering the aggravation of trying to butcher the '01 to fit the headlamps. Plus, if you took a hit in the front, chances are the header panel is damaged or weakened already.
It really is a pretty easy swap. There are eight bolts that hold the header panel assembly to the truck. Four can be reached through the grille with a long extension and four are behind the side marker lights. With those eight bolts removed, the entire header panel will come right out.
A few odds and ends that I noticed. The rubber flaps under the old headlamps will not fit under the '05 lamps so those need to be purchased. Also, the driver's side splash shield that connects from the AC condenser to header panel will need to be modified. The header panel mounting holes and air temp sensor holes are moved from previous years. cut the opening for the temp sensor about 1" longer on the bottom and punch new holes in the shield about 3/4" lower and about 1/4" outboard and it will fit perfectly. You can stretch the original, but it tends to leak hot air to the temp sensor and your outside temp reading will be too high.
As for the headlamp wiring, you can get a pigtail from the dealer and cut & splice or I've seen them in a few Auto parts stores in the "Help" brand of gadgets, but not in every store.
I have the part numbers to build your own headlight sockets and a rough idea on how to build a relay harness. I bought the parts from Mouser, I spent about $20 and got enough parts for 1.5 trucks.
Thanks so much guys,I 've already purchased the header panel.I was just glad to hear that the radiator support itself, didn't have to be change. The body shop guys charges alot for the change.I will try to post pics of my truck before and after.

That's better than I made out! I couldn't find that pigtail anywhere. I have a friend who is parts mgr at a dodge stealership - he got'em for me for like $15/ea (retail was $35). The turn sig pigtail was a little different too IIRC, I used the old socket in the new lights.
I was disappointed there are no 'heavy duty' pigtails available for the 9008/H13 bulbs - and subsequently no HD aftermarket 'relay' harnesses. I was running relays and high wattage Hella bulbs in my '03 lites. The guy I get those from did not recommend them for this application. If ya notice, the pins on the bulb itself are the size of sewing needles (tiny). He said the higher wattage bulbs tend to melt the bulb socket/pigtail....
I metered mine and got something close to a 0.01ohm resistance difference between the bulb and my sockets. I don't think it's enough to cause a heat issue with 7 amp bulbs, the connectors I used were rated for 15A each, which would be about 170watts.
