Caliber piston fell out!

Well being in a hurry to get my rotors tore down on the rear tonight
WE got them finally tore down and started to compress the calibers. Well we usually do one wheel at a time but since both rotors would have to be changed we tore them down at the same time. Well in a hurry me and my cousin forgot to clamp down the passenger side caliber when we was compressing the drivers side and popped the bottom piston out. My question is we got it back in there and it seems be sealed all the way around under the head of the piston we checked for leaks right quick and it all seemed good after a pressure test. Will I have to worry about them blowing out of the boots and leaking brake fluid?

So thats my dee dee moment of the day

Well, I am no expert JD but I do not see why you should have any issues.

Edit: At least I do not see any issues with a caliPer piston coming out

Sorry, Just had to JD!!

I recommend the Excaliber brake system.

Sorry JD, couldn't help myself. If it functions and does not leak, drive it. That is a bad thing to do though from every manual I have seen. I have not done it myself so cannot say, yet it would seem no different than replacing the components so drive on.

As long as you got all of the dirt off of the piston, and no seals were torn I doubt that you will have a problem.

LOL I got to fixing it in the last one. So your not being a Jerk Dan lol congrats on 6K posts.

It looks like it will be alright I'll test it again tomorrow before I reassemble the brakes tomorrow. I assume that is how they rebuild them anyways.

It should be fine, JD. I used to rebuild lots of calipers in my "younger" days in an auto repair shop, before rebuilts were popular and became more cost effective than DIY.

Good to know thanks Roland, my front caliper on the same side was bad along with the bracket.

I replaced both front calipers and brackets last year (torn boot on one). I looked for the parts and priced everything, but decided it was easier and better to go ahead and get the rebuilts. They came with all the new hardware. The originals have steel pistons and were hard to find. Most rebuilts had the phenolic (plastic) ones. I ended up getting them from NAPA (steel pistons).

If it had the air bled out of the system and doesn't leak drive it. After 1000 miles or so there is still no leaks you should be ok.

We bled the system once we'll do it again before we put everything back together. I paid 72 dollars at Napa for a caliper and bracket with all the hard ware. I had a pin seized up on the front right and wouldn't come out of the bracket.
