Well being in a hurry to get my rotors tore down on the rear tonight
WE got them finally tore down and started to compress the calibers. Well we usually do one wheel at a time but since both rotors would have to be changed we tore them down at the same time. Well in a hurry me and my cousin forgot to clamp down the passenger side caliber when we was compressing the drivers side and popped the bottom piston out. My question is we got it back in there and it seems be sealed all the way around under the head of the piston we checked for leaks right quick and it all seemed good after a pressure test. Will I have to worry about them blowing out of the boots and leaking brake fluid?
Sorry JD, couldn't help myself. If it functions and does not leak, drive it. That is a bad thing to do though from every manual I have seen. I have not done it myself so cannot say, yet it would seem no different than replacing the components so drive on.
It should be fine, JD. I used to rebuild lots of calipers in my "younger" days in an auto repair shop, before rebuilts were popular and became more cost effective than DIY.
I replaced both front calipers and brackets last year (torn boot on one). I looked for the parts and priced everything, but decided it was easier and better to go ahead and get the rebuilts. They came with all the new hardware. The originals have steel pistons and were hard to find. Most rebuilts had the phenolic (plastic) ones. I ended up getting them from NAPA (steel pistons).
We bled the system once we'll do it again before we put everything back together. I paid 72 dollars at Napa for a caliper and bracket with all the hard ware. I had a pin seized up on the front right and wouldn't come out of the bracket.
