Well as the title I says I was doing my brakes today since my cousin some free time and we could break in is new garage today. Well it all went well until we got the putting it all back together the drivers side was missing 3 of the brake pad clips which wasn't great and the brake pads were glazed over from these caliber pins. The drivers side was VERY stiff and rusted up but we got them out sanded them and lubed them up well and got it all back together. The passenger side though was a pain and the truck is staying the night in the garage. We got it appart finally but the caliber was locked down onto the pads pretty tight.
We finally got it off and compressed the caliber well.. that didn't work on that side it was stuck. Ran to AZ to get a new caliber for that side finally got back and the pin wouldn't come out at all. Went and seen my local mechanic up the road he said drill a hole in it and let it soak with penatrating oil and use a punch. It moved an 1/8 inch so now I have a damaged caliber pin from trying to get it out and we the caliber bracket with the pin in it is my mechanics worries he said he'd have it out in the morning but I am going to the stealer to get a pin and a couple of springs and hopefully he will have that pin out in the morning so I can get it all put back together.
The rotors seem to be in good shape there is still some grip to it. So hopefully I can get some more out of these. Just so everyone knows check your caliber pins! I have put 8K on the truck this year and my brakes glazed over on christmas so now the Hawks are on one side and we just have to get the other one back together tomorrow.
I am sure it wont help Justin.. but I have been there.. what was supposed to be a 20 min job, ended up being a three hour job running around and getting parts..I feel for ya brother..
Well my cousin lives right across the street from me so it was no problem for me to come back over here and get my ranger to do parts run. We need to do some work on his 01 F-350 PSD as well when we get time to. I just hope to have the brakes back together soon and hope the rotors last.
Have you tried a wrench on the head of the caliper slide pin to turn it first to loosen it up and then pull it out?
After letting it soak with PB Blaster of course.
Yep I tried to wrench it around with a cresant nothing put a 13/16th socket on there and beat it with a hammer nothing. Soaked it with Penatrating oil for an hour nothing. I am letting my buddy worry about it, I see why my brakes were glazed on one side but my drivers side I don't see why they were. Should I try and get the rotors turned or keep going on these?
Be sure to grease them, the 3 that was pulled out where dry and rust fell out everywhere. They are a mess to say the least and the truck is a TN truck with no rust just goes to show how well the P/O took care of it.

If you are installing new pads then you need to turn the rotors. Each set of pads wears a pattern in each rotor, and it is best ot start with a level rotor surface so the pads can "bed" in. Unlevel rotor surfaces will cause quicker deterioration of your expensive pads.
I just went through this for the rears on mine, I had one completely frozen in, couldnt budge it with Sea foam, PB or anything, after an overnight soak.
The good news was replacement calipers, with everything, were much cheaper than I thought, so cheap, I just replaced them all. I hate doing it, but figure a few dollars in preventative work might save some more headache later, and after 225K, I cant complain.
Thank god napa is putting the new slides and pins in the kits.
I bought a truck from Utah that had rusted up slide pins on the passenger side. I just put in rebuilt calipers complete with pins. Worth the extra to escape the hassle - and back on the road in a few hours.
I had to use the torch to heat my brackets, glowing red... Then use the air chisel to get the pins out. I have to admit, I was surprised by how badly they were stuck in there. But they came out and the new calipers came with new pins and boots. Use plenty of silicone grease when you put them back together, it'll keep the water out and won't run out when the calipers get hot.

I recently changed out my frontend and upgraded everything. I found this on Guzzle's 7.3 page. Seems Ford came out with upgraded pins. Just be sure to lub them with the proper grease and work them before final assembly. Welcome to guzzle's Front Caliper Slide Pin Upgrade Web
JD, every time someone comes on here and says they are doing a brake job, what do we tell them? Check the slide pins. . I bought new slide pins for the front and back, didn't need any of the new parts. My truck is so goooooodddd.
