What up....IAFF Local 3688 in Ca here...........

I just did a coolant filter add-on....I lost a few ounces if that.

I have several sets of "hose" pliers that I used to use when I did heater core R&R's or any minor coolant service work.

The pliers usually have two flat surfaces to pinch the hose but not destroy it. They have a click type ratchet to get a good cinch on them....you can improvise and clamp the hose somehow.

Considering you are getting the main feed from the 3/4" heater hose on the RH side of the block....pinch both sides, cut, install "T" and hose clamp it.

The return is on the top hose of the degas bottle.....You'll get MINIMAL coolant from there......

I REALLY DON'T THINK YOU'LL LOSE ENOUGH TO NEED TO PURCHASE COOLANT....It is nice to have though

Good Luck

The main reason why most do this is to flush the system before installing the filter.

I went ahead and purchased a gallon just in case. Also, I figured that I would need to add a bit to replace what was needed to fill the extra hose and filter. I added probably 1/4 gallon of a 50/50 mix.

On my 2005, there is NO radiator cap....can ONLY add coolent thru the degas bottle.

When I installed mine, I removed only the degas bottle and cleaned it...it had a lot of sand in it...now I can see if it starts to get dirty again....Haven't had my filter on only about 300 miles....

Awesome. I just ordered two more Baldwin filters (non CAS). I can't wait to cut the first one open and see if it was worth the investment.

D'oh! I was holding my 3 week old trying to keep her from screaming at me while her mother and sister were away and I did the speak (or type) before you think. You're right, there is no radiator cap.

4. i recommend flushing the sys out, adding a coolant filtration system and refill with
50/50 ford spec coolant.

these engines have a known problem with casting sand issues plugging the egr cooler and the oil coolers in the engine, this is why i recommend flushing the system and adding a coolant filter from dieselsite.com.

Sounds like that ford dealer over charged you on the antifreeze. I picked up 4 gallon back in Sept. for $13.86 a gallon list was $15.
