Note - the TorqShift will relearn just by driving it. The procedure above just helps it relearn a little more quickly.

Does a 99 F250 SD 4x4 V10 4r100 learn the same way ? I had my battery unhooked to do some work for about an hour , I have only drove it so far about 5 miles and when it shifts in about snaps my neck of and it never did that before.

TIA
Jeff

Is there a way to keep a battery connected so you don't have to go through the relearn strategy.

You don't have to go through the relearn strategy. It will learn just by driving.

You can buy a gadget that has a 9V battery that plugs into the lighter socket. That will provide enough voltage to maintain the keep alive memory with the batteries disconnected. I've seen these at auto parts stores.

I just replaced my oil cooler and installed the sinister EGR delete. I've driven the truck ~20 miles so far and it's still not shifting right. How long does it take to relearn the shift points? It's a 2005 F250 KR.

Thx,
Terry

See above. It may take up to 100 miles or more...but NOT steady driving. You need to stop-go-reverse a number of times. It's the "drive cycles", NOT the drive.

Point of information --- every time you disconnect the power and discharge the capacitors for the computers, you have to do the relearn again before the transmission shifts "smoothly".

Since nearly everyone with a problem gets my suggestion to reset the computers....

I have a 2000 Ford F250 5.4 with what should be a stock 4r100 transmission. Would I do the same exact steps as done here minus the tow/haul mode(my truck doesn't have this)?

EDIT:

One more thing..... When it says upshift at light, medium, and heavy throttle does that mean take off with say a quarter of the power then half the power and then just gun it(each one from a dead stop)?

-Thanks

Transmission relearn?

Had a Ford dealer tell me my 2008 Mountaineer needed a transmission rebuild at a cost of $3,400.00. For this diagnosis I was charged $99.00. A second opinion from an independent transmission repair service my transmission was repair by "Shift/Torque" relearn technique and runs as new. Is this remedy permanent and if so should I be reimbursed by the dealer for the $99.00 (misdiagnose) fee?

The relearn may last a long time, or it might have to be repeated at some point. All it really does is clear the learning and let it start over. If you can remove the negative battery cable you can do this yourself.

I don't know if you should get the diag fee back from the dealer. It does sound like they were way off base.

Years ago (possibly 2008) my 2005 F250 started shifting goofy after a battery replacement. I just stuck it out for over a week thinking the tranny was junk.

Came across the re-learn and all was well. Didn't seem like the tranny was learning anything during that period of time it was shifting dumb, I likely put well over 1000 miles on it that week, I averaged over 4000 miles a month at that time.
