Yet another VIN thread
F60AK553956
on a 64 F-600
and F61BE661733
on a 65 F-600
First one is my current dump truck, used around the property and for hauling firewood to my parents house.
Second one I just bought, cab and chassis only, I am hoping to re-power this one with a diesel and a 5 or 6 speed, and upgrade the front axle to more modern disc brakes.
Only other question I can't seem to find is the actual weight ratings of the individual axles. I need to know what the front is alone so I can upgrade properly. Thanks in advance.
Matt
P.S. Number Dummy, if you find this, sorry about the messages. On your user control panel I am not authorized to send you a pm. Don't know why, but I have emailed the admin to sort that out.

You need 25 (or so) posts before you can access the P/M feature, but you could have sent me an email.
The AXLE code is listed on the Warranty Plate, located on the left door face below the latch.
Post the codes, once decoded, I can give you the front and rear axle weight capacities.

N = New Process 435 4 Speed.
In the transmission application charts, it lists the Clark 5 speed with the N code.
In the trans ID charts, it lists both the New Process & the Clark 5 speed for the N code.
If the retainer cap that holds the shift lever into the shift tower is retained by two pins, you have a New Process 435 4 speed.
If the cap doesn't have those two pins, the trans has been swapped.

There IS however an M code used on the F600s with 330 engines...used on F550-800 with 330 or 361...these are both Clark 5 speeds...there 2 different ones...there should be a tag on the RH side of the case where the PTO cover is at..held on by 1 bolt...a small aluminum tag...on the end it would say Clark Equipment below where it says FoMoCo.
The New Process on big trucks is an A code trans...Its tag is a long tag held on by 2 bolts also at the PTO cover which is also on the RH side of the transmission.
Im not sure about the Clark trans, but the New Process 4 speed is a typical H shift pattern with reverse being over far right and rearward towards the seat.
Hope This helps...

The same ones I listed.

The shift lever has one pin where it joins the tower coming out of the top of the tranny. But it is an H pattern 4 spd with reverse being far right and back.
I think I am more confused than when I started.

Previous owner said it was a 391, but I know that isn't worth a hill of beans. I am not that concerned about this matter, just curious more than anything. Please don't spend any volume of time delving into the matter, unless you really want to. The best I can do is send you some beer for your troubles (I am a homebrewer
). Thanks again,Matt
Forgot to add, I don't know the history of the truck. I have had it for 5 years, and the guy before me owned it for about 25 years. He was using it as a chip truck for his tree service. The interior paint looks to be original and is the classic "county work truck orange", but the exterior has been sprayed over multiple times. Everything leaks a little, other than the door tag, everything else is covered in oil/grease/dirt/dust/woodchps. Thanks again for your help.

You have a NEW PROCESS 435 4 speed. One of the pins is missing from the tower.
Reverse is over to the far right, then down (back towards the seat).
The only other 4 speed is the Warner T-98 (which was not installed in these trucks with 330/361/391 engines).
Reverse is up (towards the dash), and the cap threads on/off, so the tower has no provisions for the pins.
The pins are a dead give-away = New Process 435.
As to the ribbing, glad it is the way it is. Being the newbie here I am certainly not looking to cause any trouble. I'm a rather large smart-a$$ myself, but that is really hard to convey on a message board. Thanks again gents,
Matt

He stayed at my home when he attended the local Western Nats Truck Show last year, and will prolly be back again this year.
So he knows me and my 5 Basset Hounds (
) personally. As far as being a weisenheimer, I wrote the book!
