Yet another VIN thread
With all of the F100-350 VINs we decode as well as others, I wholeheartedly enjoy big trucks...a nice break the the usual...
Beer...I can tolerate that
One point I made with Bill on the tele as we talked about the trans on this one thing I thought of...and have seen and done a few times...when they stamp those plates, the M and N look VERY similar...so its possible that either could be misread for the other...no biggy...just how it goes sometimes...If you get a chance post a pic..a nice big one..of the Warranty Plate...inquiring minds wanna see

It could be worse though...in 1966 they made the plates smaller and thus the characters on the plate a lot smaller/shorter and a lot harder to read at a quick qlance w/o a good set of eyes and/or a magnifying glass

Bill is a helluva good guy...and yes he and I do go back and forth on things at times...like the NP trans codes...I have one in my 65 and I went to a dealer years ago and they tried to tell me the damn door code is an A and I told them they were dreaming that mine is an N...N is for the light duty pickups and A is for the big trucks...which when I saw this thread got me in hot pursuit of the good ole books to see what it said about yours...

As to the picture, does this site host images itself, or are gallery pics hosted outside and linked in? I can snap a pic in the am when it gets brighter, but if I have to host it myself I will need a little time to set that up. Just got a new computer, I love/hate technology.
Thanks again for the help, you guys rock.

Matt
To post the pics, you gotta create a gallery...I had a heckuva time getting mine set up as Im not a computer whiz...others here can help you set up the gallery...once thats done though, just edit/add, search your puter for the pics and upload to the gallery...

Is the rear gear a 6.33 and is under-driven by the two speed, or is it the other way around? Can someone explain how the 2 spd works?
Ok, the further into this I get, the hungrier I am for knowledge, any good books on these trucks out there?
Finally, for a heavier duty chassis, I found another truck, but I think it is a 67.....

some of that could be incorrect, I was reading through a coat of paint. Thanks again for all the help.
P.S. As soon as I get my camera back (in for repairs) I will try to get some pics up for assistance/ viewing pleasure.

F80: F800 2WD.
E: 361 2V.
U: Louisville KY Assembly Plant.
B55268: 1967 (Assembled July 1967).
146" Wheelbase.
F800 (Gas) / Hydraulic Brakes / Front Brake Size: 14" x 2 1/2" / 23,000 lbs. GVWR.
681: 6 = Black all Vinyl / 81 = 81A Standard Cab
L7BE:
Uh... TRANS code L = Clark Model 2651-VE / 5 Speed Direct.
Rear AXLE code 7B = Eaton Two Speed Model 18802-3 / 7.17-1 ~ 9.77-1 / 22,000 lb. Rear Axle Capacity.
Front AXLE code E = Rockwell-Timken / 9,000 lbs. Front Axle Capacity
Also, in the paper books I found 2 possibilities for the C front axle...one being what you posted, the other being a 6M capacity used on trucks w/o HD frt brakes...how can one determine if its got HD brakes or whatnot ???
- cs65
I havent looked at my CD for these codes as Bill had been over it like he noted...
Also, the DSO of 52 is Des Moines...the other 4 is its unique special order number...and looking also at the lack of a color code, it was a special color for the buyer originally.
If Im not correct on any of this I know Bill will correct me...but to me that trans code looks like a definite W vs an N

Thru 1969, there is no front axle code if the truck has the standard weight capacity axle which on an F600 was 5,000 lbs.
Only the optional front axles are listed.
Since C is the front axle code, it's the 6,000 capacity Rockwell-Timken front axle without H/D brakes.

136523:
13 = New York City Ford District Sales Zone Office, where the original selling daler ordered the truck from.
6523 = Domestic Special Order number. The truck was special ordered, not "bought off the lot."
AXLE code: I looked in three parts catalogs, those codes are not listed for any 1961/66.
Since the truck was a special order, the AXLES are prolly the reason. Whatever these are, they were only available on an F600 via a special order.
Look on the axle housing's center section for some sort of metal tag with ID numbers, or for ID numbers stamped on the axle tubes.

Truck is a 5 speed with the 2 spd rear end, there was no tag on the rear end, but.....
On the front of the pumpkin in raised letters were the numbers 47948,
And stamped on top of the pumpkin were the following:
E52Z 66005
6 # 5 (the symbol is not a pound sign, it actually looks like a 3 leaf clover with no stem, I just don't have one of those that I know of on my computer)
I did not have the camera with me, but if pics might help let me know, I can get some posted. Thanks again for all your help, it is greatly appreciated.

Matt
Those numbers you posted above are not listed.
On the back side of the right (passenger side) axle tube are two sets of stamped numbers:
Upper: Housing Number / Lower: Series ID.
-----------------------------------------
Facing the front of the pumpkin...at the top...are two sets of stamped numbers.
Reading from the passenger side to the drivers side:
Carrier Assembly Number (two lines).
On a raised boss to the left of the Carrier Number: Pinion and Drive Gear Ratio.
There are literally 100's of axle ID numbers listed in the parts catalog (24 pages of them!). But begin with the Ford ID number first, then whatever make the axle is.
Since the Ford ID is listed first, there's no sequence of manufacturers...one can be an Eaton (single or two speed), the next a Timken, the next a Rockwell, the next...another Eaton...it's a FIASCO!
Reading thru these fracatta charts lookin' for those numbers you posted....was a royal pain....in the you know where.
