...eman92082, I have seen that link before and have it saved, thanks! How much material are we talking about grinding off of the box? As much as possible I assume to get the shaft out as far as possible?

I have a column from a 69 olds toronado GT...tilt/telescoping.
I can't speak for your vehicle in respect to the column. In the Bonus Built years 30" would be ideal. As far as grinding the box goes you can only grind until the body of the box rests up against your inside frame rail. In my case it's about 1/4". Don't compromise your mount integrity. Leave enough meat to be safe.
