4r100 problems

I also have this posted in the trans section but I know a lot more eyes will see it here.
Thanks guys in advance for checking it out.

My son's 2001 F350, v10, 4X4, has issues. When cold it will shift through all gears except shifting to 2cd and third at are a higher RPM than normal, no slippage. Once warm all bets are off, sometimes it won't go into reverse and when shifting past 2cd it falls into what I would call neutral. We dropped the pan and pulled the solenoid body and checked Ohm reading, all seem to be in spec. The plug on the solenoid was wet and somewhat dirty which to me is strange because the truck has not moved on over a month and this all started going down a slushy road back in December. The truck was running fine and then it downshifted on it's own to 2cd and it has been like it is since then. He is currently unemployed so we were hoping the solenoid was the culprit. This weekend we are going to put it back together and before putting the pan on is there anything else we should check. I have a Autoenginuity scan system with the Ford special reader coming Monday so maybe that will give us more information but was just wondering if there is any other things to check out before we put the pan on and know for sure it's DOA.
Thanks

I am definately no mechanic, but isnt there some sort of electrical hookups to the tranny or a computer operate shift system on these things? If there is, I would check them out. It seems that it is not getting a correct reading or even I would check all the mechanical lenkages that hook up to it. As I said, I AM NO MECHANIC. These are the things that I would start with seeing how it started after a wet ride.

You may want to use some WD-40 on the plug connection. Then use some bulb grease to keep the moisture out. From the description of the time line there seems to be a short caused by moisture occuring.

New twist to the story, last night when we tested the solenoid pack it was cold, fresh out the truck everything checked out ok, we cleaned the water out of the electrical connections and the outside to clean the oil off with brake clean and put it in the basement to warm up. Today no readings at all except pins 7 and 8, transmission temp. Could say a 50 degree change on temp actually short out the pack, because it shows no Ohms with two different meters.
