Alright so i have been searching about it but am still a little confused, i want to do the 6637 filter mod because my air filter now it terribly clogged and dirty. So i figured if i replace it, replace it with the 6637. Is there anything i need to know about doing this, or can i just take the old filter off and put the 6637 on there? I saw some people built a box for theirs, do i need a box to mount it in or can i just leave the box that it there now? Anything else i should know would be great. Thanks!
I removed the entire air filter box and just left the battery box. Building a new box is not required, but will reduce the amount of whistle and noise in the cab (but who doesn't like that!!!). Most people use a piece of 4" exhaust piping and another band clamp to connect the 6637 to the intake piece. I did not do this, i simply slid the stock intake over the filter really well and cranked the clamp down. This could cause a leak situation, but it has been fine for me so far (15k or so miles). Fleetfilters has the 6637 cheap, like $35 shipped.
I went and priced one out from the local napa here, 50 bucks for it. Regular air filter was 20. I WISH we could get them for cheaper up here.
Have Fleetfilter Send it to you. They are much cheaper than $50 shipped. BTW, $50 is what I paid from Napa the first time I got one because I wanted it NOW, but I bought 4 of them from fleetfilter, 2 for me 2 for my dad the last time. 2 will last you at least a year so load up and get the best rate for shipping and be done with it.
just ordered one from fleet filter a couple days ago and it was $41.18
Their website lists it at $28.86 plus shipping. Does that include tax & shipping? You'll save a little on shipping if you order more than one at a time.
Search man, search...
Remove the ENTIRE airbox assembly, top AND bottom. Cut out the plastic from under the former airbox if you so desire. Get something that is 4" OD and poke it into the filter, then poke the filter onto the intake tube. Build a cold air setup later if you want.
I just finished mine today. You have to remove the entire air box assembly. Discard your stock filter enclosure and filter-minder. Zip tie the IAT sensor to a brake line in back of where the 6637 will rest. Disconnect and pull out the battery. Remove bottom assembly that the battery and stock filter enclosure sat in.
I sawed the ribs and hole structures that held down the stock filter enclosure off the back side of the battery enclosure. Then on the very bottom, I sawed off the piece that laid against the wheel well closest to the driver's side fender.
Man, I'm spoiled. The farm I work at get a really good discount through the local NAPA since we do thousands of dollars worth of business with them each year. I can get the 6637 for about $35.
hey guys i think walmart has that same filter for 25 bucks! made by fram
I've never seen anything like that at wally world, but then again, I tend to put my blinders on, head straight for what I need, and get out. Can you get us a part number by chance so we can look into this?
yea i should get my 6637 soon and then i'll check the one at walmart to see if its the same and if it is i'll get the part number. i just went there and started opening the biggest filter boxes and saw one that looks the same! just so you know i also called advance auto parts and had him cross the napa part number and he said they have it made also by fram for 9.99 now that was my cost and i spend thousands there but that is still cheap if its the same. i didn't go check because it was so cheap i figured he screwed something up. but i will also check there tommorow.
