I switched it over.... and now the GPR is distrubting power like it should at least on my multimeter it is...
So here is my question... Im going to leave my truck unplugged tonight. I dont have to be anywhere tommorow morning, so if it does not start ill just plug it in and wait a few hours.
What is the correct way to start a cold truck? Just turn the Key to the ON position until the Wait To Start light goes out?
Thanks
The WTS light is independent of the GPR. The light goes off after the PCM 'thinks' the GP's are warm enough to start the engine. Wait for another 30-60 seconds before starting it. The colder it is, the longer you should wait.....up to 2 minutes after the WTS goes out.
Well went out there and waited a minute after the WTS light went off... Then I cranked it... it cranked slow, but it did start. The first minute it was running rough, idling high, and smoking like a SOB... but it did start... so then i drove her around the block, and got her warmed up more... She had stopped smoking completely by 2 minutes of being started... I never did get it into boost though.
Just going to keep her plugged in when I can, but this now allows me to park it at work without too much worry... Ive been plugging it in there, but i would rather park where all the employees park instead of over on the side of the customer parkinglot where the plug in was... Also going to allow me to not worry about her at school... Probably still needs some Glow Plugs, so when im in there, ill do them all, but ill tackle that later down the road...
I would clear it and see if it comes bask since you just worked on the GPR.
P1395 – Absolute Voltage Drop Across Bank # 1
Typical Glow Plug Monitor Entry Conditions:
P1395 – Battery Voltage (IVPWR) is between 11.5 and 14 Volts, Glow Plug Duty Cycle is 100%, and Plug on time is greater than 30.5 seconds.
Typical Glow Plug Monitor Malfunction Thresholds:
P1395 – During the absolute test a fault is set if the voltage drops below a specified value (155 A/D counts)
on Bank #1.
Well I did have the truck on the start position for more than 30 seonds today, more like 90 seconds to warm the glow plugs up this morning.... Would that cause it?but the CEL did not go on tip I started it two times later.
Well I plugged the truck in today at work... I go out and start it up and it cranks slower and has low voltage on the gauge for about 30 seconds... Noticed this ever start since I put the GPR relay 12Vs to the correct post on the Starter noid... Even though the truck is plugged in, Should I cycle the glow plugs for about 30 seconds anyway?
I also cleared the P1395 code today, maybe it was just a fluke it came on from activating the Glow plugs too long yesterday... Thanks
You might have a bad glow plug, or 2 on the right bank (passenger side).
You will get code P1395 when glow plugs are on for over 35 seconds and
battery voltage is between 11.8v and 14v....this means the battery voltage
is too high for all the GP's to be working properly.
You can find out which one(s) are bad buy checking the continuity on the
UVC harness connectors. Should be less than 3 ohms when checking
through the harness, .5 ohms when checking the GP directly. There are 2
connectors for each valve cover. Each connector has 5 pins and sockets that
provide power to the injectors and GP's. Remove the connector to test.
Looks like this:
G I C I G
G= Glow plug
I= Injector
C= Common (ground) for the injectors. Do not use this pin for checking the GP's. Use the battery neg post (-) CAUTION: There is 115 volt DC on the I and C wires with the key on. Leave it off while testing.
Low voltage on the gauge and slow cranking is normal, the GPR will come on every time the
Engine Oil Temperature (EOT) is below 131ºF. The engine heater may not
get that hot.
Have you had the batteries load tested....be sure all the connections are
clean and tight too.
Thanks... How long does it take to get 131 degrees oil when first fired up not plugged in. About a minute? Of course it depends on the outside temp, but does the oil warn up fast?
And I will start saving for new glow plugs... Thanks
