I see they have some naturally aspirating blocks.

You could say they've been "ported." Joe's reasoning is why I haven't done the HPX already, it seems like its better left alone.

I had the non braided version, and it only lasted maybe 6 months. I had an oil leak that I thought was the turbo o-rings, and after replacing those twice, I finally found a pin hole in the HPX hose. I removed, and will not be replacing. I didn't notice any improvement whatsoever. I was very disappointed. Running rotella syn, made the biggest difference in starting/idling quality.

Well since I run syn. I might change my mind about it and just do the CCK mod instead.

I've got the braided hose one from Tymar. Had it now for 6 months or so. No leaks but check it when I think of it.

I haven't really noticed any differences in operation either. Like Curtis, the romps at startup went down a little.

I think the HPX is a mod that some get noticable results and others don't. Kinda like the tank/pre-pump mods. I have seen NO change since doing them. Others have sworn it makes a HUGE difference, but I guess I didn't have the air leaks like them. It's nice to have the external filter though.

Well, I WOULD do it again. I put the SS HPX on from ITP Diesel, and it got a little quieter, but the engine smoothed out quite a bit. When it was stock it would bounce around in the engine bay at idle, and now it barely wiggles at all. Good mod in my book, and only a minor inconvenience when pulling the turbo.

My $0.02...

I thought the HPX was mostly for WOT, so the #8 injector is not starving for oil psi. Thats why I put one on.

Now that you mention it, I remember Dale at Tymar saying something about that. Something to the effect that the ideal location for the HPX would be on the back of the heads between 7 and 8, but because of the turbo mounting you can only get on the #8 port with a 90* and then you wouldn't get the needed unrestricted flow. That's why they go between 5 & 6. I haven't been at WOT since before I put it in!

I am in no way DIS-satisfied with mine. They're cheap enough, I'd put one in again.

Guess I will go with the minority here and say yes, I would do it again. I didn't see a major difference, but there was a difference for sure. Quieter idles, less knock. My wife even noted that on her first trip with it installed. I used the solid SS one from KCM and for the $45.00 buck I paid 3 years ago. Never a leak although I did replace the orings when I replaced the rest of the orings. I would steer clear of the flexible ones as many have had problems with them.

Barry, is the KCM seem like its better constructed than the other ones??? Going to be ordering some things from Dennis and was thinking of adding his HPX to my order.

That's the first I've heard of that one -- I know it will equalize the two heads, and it definitely helped mine at idle. AFAIK, the #8 issue is a fuel problem, not a HP oil problem. But at WOT, it will also equalize HP oil pressure in the heads I guess, so who knows...
