And I am sure their is no proof what happened to the twelth one!

Well back to the thread~ I ordered 40 of the 5/16" and 40 of the 1/4" from Master car and she said I should have them Friday. They are cheaper then the other supplier I called so I will post some up when they show up.

Get the April 2009 issue of Classic Trucks magazine. There is an article on page 32 titled "Front End Alignment: Bolting Up Ford F-1 Front Sheetmetal". They install caged nuts on the inside of the front fenders to ease the installation and alignment of the front end sheetmetal. I think these are for what you are looking. They list Totally Stainless and National Parts Depot as suppliers at the end of the article. You can download the Totally Stainless catalog in pdf format. NPD has an online catalog. The caged nuts shown in the photos in the article are square nuts in a square cage with rectangular tabs on either side of the cage. You'll have to buy the magazine on the newstand, as the article is not posted yet on the Classic Trucks website.

They look like they're intended for spot-welding. If you're MIG-welding them in, would you punch a hole in each tab first?

Yes McMaster-Carr has them in 10-32, 1/4-28, 5/16-24 and so on just check out their site and put in weld nuts in the parts locater.

Now you can drill a hole and spot weld them or just run a small bead down both ends. What is nice about these (and maybe others) is on the side that goes against the body their is a raised up lip that will locate center of the weld nut so you have equal adjustment on all of the bolts.

loose nuts?...noooo, it's screws loose....like a few of them. Caged nuts are folks like me, stuck in the house all winter.
