Tranny help

So, I continue to have issues. I had burnt fluid so I changed the fluid today. Drained the TC, and replaced the filter coming off of my TruCool.

First off, how much fluid does the tranny hold, with the TC drained?

I put 10 quarts back in it and I had appropriate levels on the dipstick, I think.

around 5-6 qts I started shifting the truck through the gears. It shifted and took a while to get into drive and reverse.

Kept adding 'till the fluid read appropriately on the dipstick.

Now I have 10 qts. in and truck dies when in reverse for about 5 seconds and same with drive, but not as often as reverse, which is everytime.

Ideas!

fletch are you checking the level with engine running in park? I am more familar with gmc's but full oil changes are usually 12 -14 qts, i would keep adding 1 qt. at a time till you see fluid on the dip stick then add in smaller incremints till in operating range. I have to use a bright light sometimes to see the shine of the oil when inside the shop,

You are about 5 quarts low, and low fluid will cause the torque converter clutch to drift on, stalling the engine. Try putting 2 or 3 in, run it for awhile, moving the shifter through every position.

Did you change the filter inside the trans?
You did not state if you did.

Depends on what you mean by burnt? Old fluid should look, well...old, not red, dirty.
If it was totally black and smelled like burned oil then maybe you have a problem. Maybe!
Do what Mark told you above, you are low on fluid.
The dip stick can be hard to get a true reading right after you fill it due to all
the fluid hanging onto the sides of the tube. Check it after it sets for a
while... engine running...trans up to temp.
The best way is measure what you took out and put that amount back in.
You'll be within a couple pints of what you need.

Thinking possible double o-ring on filter if it was changed.

What would the double o-ring filter due to the fluid and flow?

2 o-rings on the fliter can cause air to get into the system.

Okay, so the burnt fluid ended up being yellow and amber in color.

I filled up the tranny. Still ran like crap but I have Reverse and drive.

Truck runs okay with loss of power.

Under hard acceleration truck throws CEL
Then the truck will die when you roll to a stop light as it slowly falls below 600 rpms.

Intermittent knocking sound coming from air filter housing.

The Cottman guy got these codes:

P0221 Throttle/Petal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit Range/Performance Problem

P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

P0344 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Intermittent

P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction

P1280 - ?

P1211 ?

I couldn't find the last two.

BTW I have had some problems in the last six months with the dealer-replaced CPS.
I have put in two grey colored ones!

I haven't done anything to the TPS.
I have a speedometer working
I have an intermittent oil gauge that only works above 1300 or so RPMs.

Ideas?

Add on to last

I just changed the alternator and got new batteries three weeks ago.

Along with new idler pulley (grooved)

So, the batteries were disconected for a while (hours) and before that is when I had the CPS problems.

I am wondering if my Coon mod to the ICP is a problem? Would it not start as opposed to run crappy?

I do have a small fuel leak that I have gotten slowed down and I am trying to get it figured out but I do have good fuel pressure at least 50 psi on the side of the bowl.

I just had a new lift pump put in by ford in Decemeber.

A lot of the time you love your truck. I hate it right now.

I am wondering if I should put a tow bar on the little four door dodge I have and tow it everywhere I go in case I need a ride?

One more quick thing.

I just checked the oil level.
I had wal-mart change my oil about a week or two before this all started happening.

The oil level is reading way over the dip stick full level when I let the truck sit for about 30 minutes.
Do I need to wait longer to check it?

Also I disconnected the ICP sensor and the truck ran worse than with it.

It surged and surged.

P1280 ICP pressure out of range low
P1211 icp out of range high/low

IMO, the trans had nothing to do with your rough running engine.
Did you bump something when you changed the Trans oil?

The high oil level ain't going to go down with time...it'll go up if anything.
Walmart huh? If they didn't use diesel rated oil then the oil will
aerate and cause your engine to run pretty bad.
I can't believe that Walmart, or any other oil change place would
put too much oil in your truck, if anything they cheat you out of a
quart or two.
Changing the oil & filter again is a good place to start.

Smell the oil, does it smell like fuel? If Walmart didn't over fill it
then you are gaining fluid from somewhere.
