high idle problem

i have a 1988 f250 with a bb 460 efi and i was wondering if any one knows how to fix it? i already used a vacum gage and vacum is fine theres no leaks around the intake manifold nothin and it dosent go down when you use the the throttle or idle adjusting screw.

I would think you either have a vacuum leak somewhere or you need to clean the Idle Air Control valve or you possibly have a bad Throttle Position Sensor. You should not mess with the idle screw as this can throw your TPS off. Have you a Check Engine Light on?
Go to fordfuelinjection.com and you will see how to clean the IAC valve, read about the TPS and see how to pull any stored error codes. However check for a vacuum leak first. Just my opinion. Hope this helps.

Even if the CEL is not on you may have stored codes, might be worth checking. A gauge may not detect a small vacuum leak. If no leak then it would point to the IAC or TPS. I would clean the IAC and check for codes and as the idle screw was moved you may have to adjust the TPS as well as test it.

FORDFUELINJECTION.COM

Shows you how to pull the codes with a simple paperclip- i do it all the time-'88 f150
-A Haynes manual comes in handy for explaining the codes, but I guess you could get the codes online too.

What is the best way to check for Vaccumm leaks?

Hey guys how are you all doing, My truck has a high idle problem, it stays between 1200 to 1500 at idle, I have replaced the EGR and well as my TPS, how ever my throttle screw is back out all the way, how do reset the positioning of the screw as well as the the TPS. But my two biggest question are, how do I check for vaccum leak, and how do I take my intake off?

I really want to get allt he built up off the intake as well as replace the gasket truck set for sometime,
