I decided to join up after lurking around here for the last couple days. I am looking at buying an 01 F-350 PSD with 200k. I need a truck that will pull my car to the track and my girlfriends horse. I drove it and it feels like a new truck. Just needs a couple minor cosmetic items and likely new batteries. It has troubles with cold starts and it is not that cold here(40*). No smoke on start-up and runs smooth and shifts strong. Has an AirRaid CAI and a B&M tranny temp gauge. Paint is great and has no rust. They are asking $9,000, but said they would be able to negotiate. I currently have a '94 K1500 with a tired 350 TBI. There is no way it will be able to handle what I want to tow. Is there anything I should look for in this PSD?
Yeah the 01s had the mechanical diode issue in the tranny -- see if it's been rebuilt. Has it been tuned or anything? The fact that you say it shifts "strong" leads me to believe it's either tuned or the tranny has been done. In the stock form, the 4R100 is a peanut-butter-4-speed... LOL...
There are some FTE'ers up that way, so if you have any questions, maybe one of them will be able to help out.
Haha, it shift strong compared to my 183k mile 4-speed Chevy. The F-350 is probably just shifting how it should haha. The dealer doesn't know much about the truck. They bought it at an auction. It will drop right into gear from park, if that gives you any more knowledge on it. Could you give me any more info on that mechanical diode problem you were talking about? Is it something that involves taking the entire tranny apart?
The hard start issue could be a simple as needing new glowplugs ($100-ish if you shop around) and/or a glow plug relay

You'll see a link for an article on the Stancor GPR. If you need to replace the GPR just go straight to the stancor unit. 2x the price but SOOO worth it.
Here is a COMMON MODS thread - there's also a "buyer's guide" thread but I can't find that one - search for it or maybe someone else will chime in with a link to it
Get the Vin number off of it and take it to the 6.0 forums and get them to run an oasis. I wouldn't be scared of it. The market is flooded right now you can get the truck cheaper I would say.
