i have a 1980 f350 with a 400 in it it has been running for about 15000 miles the other day after i replaced the blow out intake gasket i was test driving it and it just shut off sounded like i turned the key off and it would not restart i had it towed to my house and started to work on it i had fuel and spark from a new distributor but it was blowing fuel out of the fuel bowl vent when i cranked it over the motor is still in time i pulled the front cover to double check and i pulled the intake and the gasket looked good on removal my compression testor shows about 25 psi on each cylander so im thinking my guage is shot but im lost on what it could be
it does have 2 different heads one is casting number d3ae g2b the other is d5ae a2a this one looks to be egr the d3ae is not egr i am running a weiland dual plane intake procomp gear drive up front and the summit sum-5200 cam with lifters and comp pushrods i did notice the back pushrod on each side is bent but one is intake one it exhuast
it is spraying out like its pressure ising the intake and i found out i guess my rings or pistons are shoot if i pressureize the cylender you can here is spraying in the crank case
you are going to have a certain amount of leakage with a leakdown test. You say you have fuel and spark, but that it is leaking from the vent. That would be a needle and seat or float problem.
Its hard following all your posts, and i don't think your head castings are a great issue. I would fix the carb problems foremost, and then check timing and gear drive( procomp is junk).
ive tryed 2 carbs they both blow fuel out about 8 to 12 inches it cover the under side of my hood it is in time ive checked it a hundres times and there is no fuel getting to the plugs
I know you said your timing is on the money. You mentioned a couple of bent push rods. Pop off one of you valve covers and watch the lifters while you crank the engine. To me it sounds like your cam may have failed.
Can you SEE where the fuel is coming from? Is it making a stream anywhere?
Take the carb off and turn it upside down. Then pressurize the fuel inlet with a few psi. (I get it clean and pressurize it with my mouth) When pressurized it should hold pressure. If it is then the needle and seats are holding. If it doesn't hold pressure while upside down, the problem is needle and seat related.
its not fuel pressure issue i have and electric fuel pump it works fine when i run it the only time it sprays fuel is when you crank over the motor like you pressurizing the intake some how and it is pressurizing the carb
