If you have a straight comp all across the board, my guess is the cam is retarded. Cam timing jumped or is off.

i have the front of the motor off and when the 2 dots on my timing gears line up the 2 valves for number 1 piston are closed i thought it was off two but i just found out that the stock valve spring would coil bind at the lift of my cam but it just shut off

In reference to your fuel spraying problem, you mentioned an electric fuel pump. Dumb question, but have you checked or do you have a fuel pressure regulator for the pump or is internally regulated. You might be sending too much fuel pressure to the carb.

Your bent pushrods are an interesting problem. Have you done anything to your engine other than replacing a blown head gasket?

Ok, so if I understand you correctly, you are saying that the carb sprays fuel out when the engine is being turned over by the starter regardless if the pump is turned on electrically or not. Wow, I'm not sure what to do next, again if I understand you correctly, I don't see how the carb could be spraying fuel out if the fuel pump has been shut off. I'll have to think on that one for awhile, maybe someone else here on FTE has more knowledge to figure this one out. I'll get back to you.

Does it ONLY have an electric fuel pump, or is it in conjunction with the mechaical pump?

Good question, I assumed only one pump (electric). Without fuel pressure from a fuel pump, I don't see how the carb could be getting pressure at all much less enough to spray out the vent tube.

it only has one holley pump with a regulator on my fender from wehat i read from a google search it sounds like my sum-5200 cam has to much lift for my stock springs and i might have bent some valves or broke some springs and valves not seating correctly im assuming the pressure from the cylander is comeing back in to the intake from the bad intake valve and pressureising the carb ????? going to hopefully pull heads tomarrrow or this weekend to now for shure what you guys think sound like an idea
