How many more guys have we seen on this boeard trade out as well. Could prove to be bad for the long run.
Anyone wanting to trade out just makes my next truck cheaper. Problems will occur no matter what vehicle you have unless you take time to do all the maintenance. I agree with the drive it like you stole it. Diesels like to be warm.

Exiled - I hear what you are saying on a bypass filter. It definitely will not catch everything quickly. While it is letting some stuff go by, some of that stuff is certainly going through the oi cooler. This is not good, but better than putting a filter in front or behind the oil cooler since it wouild restrict flow to the cooler.

All I can say is - my filter removed a BUNCH of stuff that would have eventually caused erosion of the water pump impellors AND would potentially start restricting the water flow in tight places. It is a very good thing to have the filter (but not perfect).

I hear ya Mark. I think it's ironic that you dont hear alot of water pumps going out. Think about it. Seems like alot of the sand would be built up around the waterpump. I guess I think the water pump on these engines is like other engines, the water located about at the coolant systems lowest point. Just where sand, grit, and metal debre love to hang out.
I believe I've chose Dieselsites kit. Nothing to do with price and to be honest I've only seen 3. DFuser's redneck and one that had a plastic mounting bracket I did'nt even take it seriously enough to catch it's name.
Mark I did'nt post thread links cause really i've only reads one thread on this board that had anything against the coolant filter. You posted in that threadas well{DIY coolant filters}. All my other reading was else where and I did'nt book mark. I read alot of stuff and I cant remember where everything was. Give me alittle time and I'll find it.

Wash1331 I see where your going. I dont agree in the sence that this thread is concerded. Maintance should insure a piece of machinery to live at or past its life span. 100K on a PSD is a very short lifespan. I know of trucks that was very well maintained and had turbo, cooler, and/or bed plate leaking problems. I change my oil between 6k-7k. Just cause Ford said so. Of course when I'm pulling alot I change it between 3500 and 5k. My truck has had alot of trouble. I dont think anybody here would have kept this truck. I'm hard headed and I love my truck. Like I tell my wife I dont need a reason when she ask me why. She is'nt going anywhere. My wife like the new SDs. She really likes the new front ends> She says they drive like her 1/2 ton. She wants to trade my truck off so bad it aint funny. Yep you can buy a 6.0L pretty cheap these days. But guess what that goes both ways. You better get whatcha want cause you are going to lose value just as soon as you drive it off. When I bought my truck the SD had the strongest Book value than anything else on the road. Now look at them. You think a Ford is cheap. Dodge around here is giving one away free when you buy 1 at MSRP.
