Nice Warren! I didnt think you were considering a 6.4 truck. I kinda hope ya do get a 6.4 truck, I sure would love to see more guys with them, and how they do with some mods. Ive read a little about them and they can get some crazy power from them motors.
I have been talking to Eric at Innovative regarding the 6.4 and how it compared to the 6.0. There appear to be none of the design flaws pertaining to the headbolts - at any power levels so thats great news. As for mileage, once the DPF is removed and regens are eliminated I think it will be on par with the others. As for performance, I wouldnt want any more than I had for that dually was absolutely snaky
I have not asked around regarding EGR coolers or injectors but have not heard much talk of those items, have you guys? As much as I had for problems on my 6.0, I never replaced an injector on that thing!
As for mileage, once the DPF is removed and regens are eliminated I think it will be on par with the others.
from what i've read and heard from others, all the new diesels are getting the craps for mileage until the DPF/regen is eliminated. seems like very few job 1 6.4's had some issues, but the job 2, 3's and so on seem like pretty solid trucks. i was reading that an '08 with the latest flash was getting 17mpg around the city... US dimensions... it was a F350, CC, SB, 3.73 rear end...
I`d love to move up to an 08/09 but once you remove the DPF and eliminate regens doesn`t that negate your warranty?
Depends where you take it! Nothing thats not reversible if something major happens but for the small day-to-day items, no big deal Morris!
Sherm, I think there was an available 3.55 ratio on the job 3 trucks - I like that for the speed I drive to keep rpms down. There is so much torque when they are programmed that the towing ability will still be extremely good. I will have to confirm that - for some reason I recall reading that!
at least we don't have the emissions bullspit here like the states yet... i wonder if it'll come to that soon though??
DPF delete and Tunes is almost asking for a visit from the party lights from what i hear, at least in some states...
you could be right Warren. in a powerful vehicle its not a bad idea to go with the higher rear end for better economy. i went with the 3.55ls in my F150...mainly for economy, and i don't plan to have 9000# behind her much if any!! in the new PSD's, perhaps it'd be wise to get the 3.55 if you don't pull 15k regularly...

Reason: add some shizzle
I really like the 3.55's in mine. The 4.10's were way too short. I coulda pulled a house off it's foundation with it before. I'd have to have a pretty big load before I'd think I needed different gearing. I know this doesn't sound like me, but I can always downshift if I need to.
Other than Cali, which states are doing the emmisions thing?? I'm sure they all will be soon the way nobama is talking.
Hey Warren and sherm, what's this job 1,2,3 stuff???
Ive always liked the taller gears in my vehicles too. I never really pull anything THAT heavy that I would need to get low gears.
When they refer to the different jobs of trucks, job 1 was the very first ones that came out, then job 2 was later on and a little updated, and so on.
Luckily for us in Saskatchewan, we dont really have to worry about the emissions stuff at all. I can see some good with it though, but not the way its done right now, that whole emissions testing needs a serious look-over.
That emissions thing is a little scary actually. I know it's good, I mean better, for the environment and as such, it's good, it just makes thing kinda tough for the little guy.....
Well yeah, some of the emissions stuff is good for the enviroment for sure. But some of it seems to be a little overboard, with no noticeable difference for actually helping anything.
Alot of it seems to just fatten up pockets, instead of do what its intended to do.
