They wrote off my Corolla last week and I just got the numbers Yesterday. Still no cheque, but at least it's on it's way. $9500 plus taxes. I've got the new one picked out too. I don't like to waste time. '05 Corolla with 64K. My dad picked it up last week and it not quite what he was looking for. Works for me. It's pretty much exactly what I was looking for. As for Ford truck stuff, just to keep the thread legit, pulled the PSD out of it's winter rest. The Aerostar was just not getting good enough fuel mileage and the price of diesel/gas is pretty much the same now. Man, does she sound GOOD! I REALLY missed the ol' girl.....
Dave, how is the amount compared to what you expected? Did you negotiate any after the offer with any information like repair receipts, etc that would increase its value?

I negotiated with MPIC a couple of times, once with my father's Oldsmobile and once with one of my cars. I had all the receipts for all work, Ziebart, recent pictures of it, etc., to explain that both vehicles although older, were in better than average condition and maintained extremely well. I also submitted all receipts (copies ) of any additional equipment purchased and installed on the vehicles. For instance I had bought new, high quality tires two months previous...I submitted the receipts and indicated in my cover letter that although my vehicle was older, by buying top of the line tires, shortly before the vehcile was involved in the accident...confirmed that this was a vehicle that I intended to keep .
In both cases because of the thorough documentation and cover letter which concretely demonstrated my view, the end price I received from MPIC was reflected in their final settlement.
I have found MPIC fair and very reasonable to work with, but they do need something to work with, such as thorough , relevant documentation and current pictures.
It was a little less than I had hoped. I was hoping for 10K. I had been looking in the trader and Kijiji, etc and found that I could get a reasonable replacement fro $9500 plus taxes. So I asked for that and they gave it to me. They originally had been offered $9000, so it wasn't a big stretch. I hadn't done anything to the car, so I had no reciepts to turn in. They did ask. Current documentation does really help. I brought in my sales reciept for the car itself, plus a bunch of recent trader adds that I had found. It went fairly well. I stuill have to sign the papers, but the deal is made. Good enough for me.
You're right. I did make out fairly well. I'll be able to buy a car approx. like the one I totalled, and that's not always the case. Mind you, the adjuster I had, she had nice eyes....
SGI is now using a device called AUTOSOURCE VALUATION and it does a pretty good appraisal of the vehicle. It starts with a base price for the vehicle then uses a series of +'s and -'s from there on various options, tire wear paint, etc. It even includes a sample pricing on an original window sticker of a vehicle same year/model as yours. I had my original window sticker and mine was $6000 more than the one they used. The 'LE' option was almost $4500 and it was not in the database. I submitted some invoices for front end repair, a few accessories they missed, and the invoice for the cab off procedure to do head gaskets. I am hoping they increase the value somewhat.
I still have my 2007 Toyota Corolla rental car - its starting to grow on me! I will miss the driving to Regina (fairly briskly), using it all week including a fair amount of idling to warm up in the morning while I have breakfast, then putting about 36 liters of fuel in before heading home!
Thats one thing I love about having an econo box too, when i drive to and from edmonton, I can go as fast as i want, and in the end, it costs at least half as much (usually more) then my 3/4 ton!
They gave me mazda 3 for my rental. Didn't like it much at all. Way rather have my Corolla. They're real nice, aint they?
What's the latest on yours Warren???

My wife has the Toyota Corolla station wagon...the Vibe. The Vibe and the Matrix are essentially the same car, come on the Corolla platform, with the Corolla 1800cc engine, transmission, etc.
She really likes it, as does our daughter. Good mileage in the city and you can get 4 adults and cargo in the little thing.
I drive it, every so often...it's a little tight for me (leg room) but other than that, nice little car.
I will keep you posted - the system moves slowly! I am into week 4 of 4 in Regina for classes. I need to get back to normal (if thats what its called in my case ). The boys back home are busting their humps - I think they realize that I must have been doing a bit of work because they are swamped! Once I have money in hand, then I will proceed to purchase. I also have to get my ash on that sled soon - havent ridden yet.
I will be looking at those 1 -2 year old trucks coming through the dealer auctions. It will either be a 2007 pre emissions Dmax (it was part way through that model year that they changed body styles and went to the DPF crap!) or a 6.4 Superduty. Either one will be chipped within the first few weeks and a stainless cat back exhaust installed. The 6.4 will get the DPF delete and compatible tuning from Innovative as I have been talking extensively with Eric over there about how thats working. Either truck will excite me equally so condition, color, availability, etc will be the determining factors.
