I'll just add; look at the steering column differences between 64 & 65 F100's; that another area to consider being different as well as Radiator support, will also need modification if swap, from what I've been told.
On my 79 frame I'm working on has the frame stamp under the cab. I don't know how in the heck one would get under there to even read it, let alone gripe that is does not match. Its being blasted and powder coated, which will likely make it unreadable from now on.
This is the first place law enforcement looks for the VIN if it is recovered after a theft. And if you sell it to someone like here in Arizona, where all vehicles are subject to a level one inspection it will fail as the title must match the vin on the frame. Some one will be really pissed that it is now not able to be titled after payment and shipping.
And if they did let you squeak past it would get a later title and be subject to emissions.
Must be a lot of chop shops in Arizona and California. Yep, that does make sense now that I think about it.
Don't worry, my kids will be the ones selling my truck when I'm dead and gone. I probably won't care at that point. Got my 65 Mustang bucket seats for my truck today. Should get the ranger brackets next week sometime. Will hopefully pick up the completed frame next Friday. Shes coming together, lol.
So you folks can swap together anything you like as long as its in state, but out of staters cannot do the same. When I moved to Arkansas from Oklahoma they didn't even look to see if I even owned the vehicles. Had a utility trailer I've never had a title on, and they took my word and gave me a vin number and title for it (Oklahoma does not title trailers). Think you guys are too close to the land of fruits and nuts(California) and the laws have spilled over.
Garbz I've always wanted to meet you. You going to the F-100 nationals in Iowa in 2010? I think that where I heard they would be.
The weather broke today and i did some measuring and looking . The 64 frame seems to have higher frame rails in the front than the 66 .It LOOKS as if raises more in front of the cab than the 66 . (how much I dont know because 64 no sheet metal and no drivetrain , 66 full dress ) This must be what you guys was talking about " the frame being deeper " . So if I mount a newer style cv frontend it may lower the truck more than the 5" than the guys with the newer trucks are getting ? (66 and newer ) This frame may work better with the irs out of a mark 8 also .
If I remove the rivets for the rear mount on the front leaf springs and front shock mounts , will it be possible to find these rivets and replace later ? In case I decide to finish restore at a later date ? Also the 66 has a good bed , is the beds the same on the 66 and 64 ? sorry about all the questions , but really thinking about it because of the 64 frame and sheetmetal being blasted . thanks rg
i believe the 64 used the old beds of the late 50 and pre unibody. im not sure on the mounting hole location, but the body line are they same EXCEPT for the 64 have a straight line across the door as were the 65 and 66 have a dogleg in the bodyline at the front of the door. i would lay it on there and see if it fits.
