i just finished putting a custom (made by me) pipe kit on my 89 ranger 4 cylinder. i started with just cutting my muffler an tailpipe out and welding on a glasspack with a turndown tip. that was pretty deep but it was missing something. so now i'm running a piece of 2" off the header (no cat) to the glasspack to a 90 degee bend to a piece of 2 1/2" pipe out in front of the right rear tire. it sounds alright. it's loud and annoying but thats about it and i lost that deepness i wanted. it kinda sounds like a diesel at low rpm's then the glasspack kicks in and makes a "wooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" sound that gets on my damn nerves. what should i do? would running water in glasspack make it deeper? or should i cut the pack out and put a piece of straight pipe in it? or is the 18" long 2 1/2" piece to big? should i downsize that and put a tip on it? i'd really appreciate some feedback.
the longer the glasspack, the less poppy and more deep, just please dont put a straight pipe on that 4 popper, spare us, i like the 4 bangers quiet myself, hehe
When my muffler rotted out I experimented a little too, and I had the 2 inch straight pipe that curved out exactly like you have yours now. I ended up putting another muffler on it and lost a little get-up, but I don't have jerks in their Toyotas and Hondas trying to race me now. For some reason when people hear loud pipes they automatically think "RACE!!!".
