89 ranger exhaust

i live in a town where if your truck doesnt have a good sounding exhaust, your truck and you aint worth a damn. i got a 89 2.3L 4 cylinder ranger. its got a cheap after market catback system with 2 inch tubing. i want a good deep sounding dual system but i dont know what to do. what would sound good:

-should i cut my muffler out, put a piece of straight pipe in, split off the rear pipe and bring two out the rear with 3 inch tips?

-should i cut out the muffler, split right behind the cat, and bring em out in front of the rear tires (one on each side)

what size tubing should i use if i do one of these? should i go 2 to 3, straight 3, or what? i was also thinking instead of a straight pipe, put in a glasspack. i'd appreciate it if someone could help me out. i want my truck to sound good but not like a damn go kart. i can do it myself i just need to know what would sound good.

a 4 chyilnder heh.....well the best thing I can see you doing is cutting off right after the cat then running a Y-pipe with a glasspack...that sounds great on my friends Nissan with a 4 cyl.

hehe, well, maybe you should get a new truck. a 4 banger will never EVER sound good no matter what exhaust you use. the best sound you'll get is that of a lawn mower, maybe a weedwacker....no, seriously though, it's gonna sound like a honda or somethin. Join the V8 boys....you'll have much more fun, and it won't be just sound, you'll actually have power, too. But if you really want to still persue this lost cause of making a 4 cylinder loud, and to do it, it won't be legal.....remove your cats all together, split with a y after your exhaust manifold, straight back to Cherrybomb glasspacks and straight out the back with 3" chrome tips. Use 2", maybe even 2 1/4" (though that may be too big of a diameter) s/steel exhaust pipes after the y pipe and into the glasspacks and out of the glasspacks to your tips. Don't go out the sides in front of the wheel, unless you're just going out the passenger side with the two pipes. If you go out the drivers side in front of the rear wheel, you may run into problems when filling up with gas, cause if any gas drips on those hot tips, BOOOOMMMM!!!! You're in a whole world of pain. Now don't take my advice of removing your cats because it is illegal, and I wouldn't want to promote that or get anyone in trouble. But between you and me, that is the only way to get loud sound with a 4 cyl. You may get a little boost of power, but not enough to really notice it.

Get rid of your cat and run one of those ricer mufflers like on cars then run a pipe after it and split it into duals and exit them before each tire in chrome tips. Not big tips, just chrome ones. It will sound like a dream.
