Go straight pipes. That's what everybody does. If you want a nice tone, Gibson has a nice kit, but it is a little pricey. Personally, I am going to do the straight pipes on my 92 F250 2WD. Even make your own with universal pipes and a nice muffler like the popular Super 44. Ask your friend what he put on his or what he did to get a good idea of what to do. It could point to a good brand or what you could do in order to make a great sound. You also need to consider the engine. Different engines produce different decibels levels.

If you want loud but not ridiculously annoying to drive..go with dual straight pipes and get ride of the cats. I dont believe in mufflers myself...have taken them off of pretty much everything I own.

Well, no cats does bend the law a bit...but if you live in a state with inspections...no one will notice. If you do have state inspections, you pretty much have to have them to pass.

It's against the law to remove them and against the law to not have mufflers as well. Here in Kansas as with other areas you can pretty much get away with anything. It is illegal and you can get cited for it.

Like tgore3 said, it is illegal to remove cats and not have a muffler. I know some guys with trucks that are stupid loud and they get away with it, I think this is the case most places. However, if you manage to get pulled over for some other type of infraction, be nice to the cop. If you're a jackass they could very well right you a ticket for your exhaust just to show you who's the boss. I know people who have had things like this happen.

You pretty much have to go without mufflers if you want it LOUD IMO. Before I redid my exhaust, i replaced the stock muffler with a cherry bomb. It had a nice tone but wasnt at all loud.

Headers or manifolds

Just wondering where everyone buys their headers. I have a set from Summit but the rotted out within 2 1/2 years. Now don't know whether to buy another set or manifolds. Looking for cheap fix. The original manifolds had the famous Ford flaw cracked. These are on the 4.6 Triton V-8 2001 F-150 4x4.
What would you do?

See if there is a recall. If there is, they will replace them for free or a low, low price at the dealer.
