We probably all have a different definition of loud. Plus, what kind of sound do you want.? Loudest truck I ever had was my 78 Chebby 3/4 ton 350sbc, It had duals all the way out the back with 12" glass packs around the middle, maybe aft a little bit, no cats of course. Stuck with a small diameter pipe, that thing was crazy loud, that's back when I was a teeneager and it was still crazy loud. It had the real poppy glass pack sound.

 

my old f150 had the same set up,it was loud enough for me and the surronding neighbor hoods(3 blocks)

 

Also be aware that depending on where you live you have to be within decible limits and some of those tickets are worse than the improper equipment ticket.

 

And most of the time it's just up to the cop's discretion. It's going to vary by state and the cop him/herself quite a bit. The cat is federal but the muffler and loudness is by state.
