How much Coolant will the system take ??
I've got to replace a gasket at the water pump and will need to replace all the coolant.. How much will it take to fill it ??? It looks like I've got the gold colored stuff... Its not green ! Whats the best make of coolant to use ?? Is it a special kind for diesels ??

Not really special for diesels, but it's the G-05 coolant. Xerex or Prestone makes some, just make sure it's the G-05 stuff. Best way to do that is to keep filling with distilled water, run until 'stat opens, let cool, and keep repeating until it drains clear. Once it's clear, drain, pour in 4 gallons of the gold concentrate (system holds 8 gallons total), and top off with distilled. You can cheat and save some time by yanking the 'stat until the last cycle, though. Trick is to get as much of the old stuff out as you can.
You might also look into replacing the gold with Red ELC (Rotella or Final Charge). Same procedure to flush for the conversion. I'm dumping the gold for red come the spring. Any heavy duty ELC will work, just don't use Dex-Cool or "for all makes" junk.

The system holds 8 gallons but I could only get 7 in mine and I drained the block and blew out all the hoses with an air compressor. You can get the final charge at wally world for about $10-12 per gallon but it is the 50/50 stuff. Some here dont like it because it is 50/50 and you cant get all the water out of the system (like I said I only put 7 gallons in and its supposed to hold 8 gals).
