I just recently purchaced a truck from a guy saying he had a 1964 F260. When I looked at the door plate I found it said F260. Does anyone know how to decipher all of it? The VIN is F26JR461947 then the numbers on the plate go from left to right 120 L F260 381 F24 then the next line is 6800 114 3600 720129. Any help on this would be greatfull.

Hey classicautolover; welcome aboard, and thanks for posting, I've never seen F26 on a data plate, but I learn something new from just about every member. I'm sure someone will give ya he spec's on how many made and level of value if any more than regular Slicks.
Again Welcome aboard.
Well I had never heard of an F260 before and to see to believe. But now that I know they are real any information on them would be appreciated. I am truely interested in numbers made and years made. No one I know has ever heard of an F260
theres no fender/hood badging for F110 or F260...just on the warranty plates...all it denotes is its a factory 4WD rig...it is a fairly uncommon rig...there were 2922 made in 1964...

Welcome to FTE
F260 defines the MODEL code, and is only found on the Warranty Plate, not on a badge or emblem on the truck.
By the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating), there were three different F250 4WD's.
F260 = F250 4WD / 6800 lbs. GVWR.
F261 = F250 4WD / 4900 lbs. GVWR.
F262 = F250 4WD / 7700 lbs. GVWR.
GVWR = The maximum amount of weight the truck can safely carry. This includes the weight of the truck itself, the driver, any passengers and cargo.
Well thank you all for your help. Now its time to restore. One more question for anyone, did the ford stake beds have wood or metal floors? Mine currently has a diamond plate steele floor wich I can't imagine is "factory".
