1965 VIN decode
F26DR663360
Wb 120. F260. Body k81, Trans n, axle 25, Max 6800, cert 172, 4000 dso 736062
I heard there was a camper edition during this time, I wonder if that is what this is as there are huge body lifts under the rear springs....makes it sit pretty high
Any help would be appreciated
I'll let Bill do his thing, but I can tell it's a
F26 - F250 4x4
D - 352 V8 2bbl
R - Made in the San Jose assembly plant.
K81 - Medium blue crush vinyl and medium blue ladder pattern woven plastic
N - NP435 - 4 speed transmission
25 - Bill, where is this info?
DSO - 73xxxx - Delivered to Salt Lake City
The Camper Special was not available in the 4x4 models. Post a picture of your suspension and we can tell you if it's been modified or not.
I have pictures in my garage (link below my user name) of the rear suspension on my 1966 F250 4x4. It definitely has some tall blocks in there from the factory.

Mine has the auxilliary overload springs on it so might look a little different than yours depending.

Wow! Thanks for all your help. That block looks a lot like what's under my springs as well....looks like bigger tires will help. The bed wraps around about a foot in the back...
where would I find another bed like that?
Would this have the twin I beams by chance?
F26DR663360 / W.B. 120 / COLOR: Blank / MODEL: F260 / BODY: K81 / TRANS: N / AXLE: 25 / MAX GVW: 6800 / CERT. NET HP: 172 / RPM: 4000 / DSO: 736062
F26 = F250 4WD
D = 352 2V
R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant.
663360 = 1965, assembled March 1965.
120" Wheelbase.
COLOR = Blank.
F260 = F250 4WD, 6,800 lbs. GVWR
K81: K = Medium Blue Crush Vinyl & Medium Blue Ladder Pattern Woven Plastic / 81 = 81A Standard Cab.
N = New Process 4 Speed Manual Transmission.
25 = Spicer/Dana 60 Rear Axle / 4.56-1 / No Limited Slip / 5,200 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.
6,800 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
172 net HP @ 4,000 RPM
736062:
73 = Salt Lake City UT Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
6062 = Domestic Special Order number. The truck was special ordered by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."
When there is no COLOR code, the vehicle was painted a non standard color per the original purchasers order. This makes a vehicle a Domestic Special Order.
4WD: Most of the time, FoMoCo does not list a 3rd digit of the AXLE code, which pertains to the front axle.
The front axle ID tag is located under one of the bolts that retains the inspection cover to the housing.
Today, many of these tags are missing. The front driving axle is a Spicer/Dana 44, the ratio should be 4.55-1.
Regardless of the year, there are no codes within the VIN or stamped on the Warranty Plate that denote the Camper Special package.
AFAIK, 1977 was the first year that Camper Specials were available with 4WD.
Where would I find another bed like that? Would this truck have Twin-I-Beams?
All rear bumpers were optional, but FoMoCo didn't offer a step bumper back then, so it's an aftermarket bumper.
If a Styleside pickup, your truck has a 1957/60 Styleside bed, that FoMoCo installed on all 1961/66 F100/250 4WD's except 1966 F100 4WD's.
This is called the "wrong bed" by enthusiasts, because the bed lines don't match the cab lines.
F250 4WD's do not have Twin-I-Beam front suspension, have front leaf spring suspension.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.
While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...ghtsafter1.jpg
Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).
When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).
Your pic will be placed in the post.
Hope that helps.

The bumper is solid steel so its likely after market no doubt.
I was referring to the bed that "wraps" around the back as shown in this picture of a ford that looks almost identical...the color is even close to mine. I think it was "baby blue" originally.

But before doing anything, estimate what the costs will be for parts & labor. Whatever figure you come up with, DOUBLE IT then add 25%. And this still won't be enough.
Most people grossly underestimate what restorations cost. It's real EZ to sink 25 grand into one of these trucks, and its outward appearance might look exactly the same as the day you bought it.
You think you bought an old vehicle, but what you really bought is a hobby...and hobbies tend to be expensive.
Find a replacement wrong bed. It belongs on a four wheel drive.
