260C Power Steering conversion

I've heard that the Datsun 260C power steering is the go for converting the F Truck from the manual box. Is there a particular year 260C that this relates to. I'm thinking about buying a 1984 model if it has the correct parts to do the job. Our F Truck is a 1977 model. Any help would be great. Thanks

Huh?

Jeez... I just looked at your profile and you're in Australia. Can ya post that up front? That's really important. I am sure many of us read your post thinking you've just arrived from Saturn.

Sorry mate but up here in the States we have many Dentsides available for picking. I suggest contacting a company like Benchwork or Red-Head steering for a reverse rotation, passenger-mount box for your right-hand drive application.

As a side point, I have been considering the Toyota MR2 electric power steering pump conversion. All electric and 2000 psi @ 35 amps.

Is that pulling 35 amps on turn or continuous?

Looks like you basically have it run continuously, pulling 5-6 amps with no movement and up to 35 amps full load.

The newer pumps run off a load sensor so they actually will turn off if no movement and will use a speed sensor to turn off at highway speeds when there is little steering input.

6 amps running isn't too big of a deal. But my concern is going thru a parking lot with heater on, headlights and electric fan operating that's a lot of amps even for a 130 amp 3G alternator.

Just an idea I have had tossing around in my head. I can't leave stock stuff alone.
