1500-1600 rpms bucking when warm

03 6.0 CREW CAB LARIAT F350 4X4=
Bought truck in sept 08. Shortly thereafter threw a 2286 code, started leaking oil left side. Dealer tested truck stated ICP was bad. Replaced that. About 150 miles after that work was done i noticed that when warm it started to BUCK real bad that would shutter the whole truck (almost like the whole unit shut down for a brief second) if i continued around those same rpms 1500-1600 the bucking would continue, but if i punched it and got the rpms up to 1800> it would operate fine.
I have tried to read all the down loads and all the info in the 6.0 intro but still reading. I can tell you this i operated the truck for about 4000 miles before i started using a fuel additive. I use POWER SERVICE additive.
the truck also runs like do-do the first few minutes when i fire it up in the a.m. Noisey as hell. strong odor of fuel .
Stopped in dealership and of course $130 for diag. from the git-go.
Just seems funny that this came about after they repaired the icp.
Anybody have any clues ?

AS ALWAYS THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP IN ADVANCE.

Does it blow black/white/blue smoke at all? Sounds like you have a couple of bad injectors to me, that is a common problem when the 6.0 runs like crap when its cold.

Upon start up she will throw a few puffs of blue diesel rich smoke...after that for a few minutes it is white (but i thought the white on a cold mornin is natural) then clears up.

Some white smoke could be normal, Its just not cold enough where I live to know. Sounds like you have an egr problem and possibly a couple of bad injectors to me. The only way to tell, is to use someone's extremely advanced OBD2 scanner, or use the ford one.. (this means getting boned for 130 bux). Where do you get the power service additive??? How coked up was your egr valve?

Thanks guys for the responses. I have had this truck since sept 08. Before that i had 2 rangers . So i did my first oil change along with fuel filter and air filters. Bought a haines manual dowmloaded alot of info off the intro site here and still learning.i do not have a clue with the egr question will try to locate , remove and clean it. 6.0 is a waayyy bigger monster than a 97 4.0 ranger so gotta find my way around. Just want to do with what is in my ability before i go to the dealership and say "lube it up and put it in me" know what i mean vern?
I just wonder why this happens directly after the dealership replaces the icp....hell they ran the diagnostic then.

For some decent technical information try this link to the Diesel Technician Society at Diesel Technician Society.

Just about everything you might want to know about a 6.0 diesel is there.

Scary pics of my 11,000 mile-old EGR valve - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

click that for instructions on cleaning the egr valve

I don't think it says it on there but use a magnetic socket when you remove those bolts. If they fall you are kinda screwed.
