I have a 95 bronco with a 302 in it. Sometimes when you start it up, it doesn't matter if it is warmed up or cold start, it will idle up a little like normal then the check engine light will start flashing and it revs up to about 1500-1600 rpms and holds it for a few seconds then drops back down a stumbles around and usually strightens out ok but some times it dies.
I have pulled codes and ran test replaced the iac valuve and throttle position sensor, new plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor and still it does this. The new TPS helped for may be a week but then it was back to the same old crap.
Some times it will stumble around after you get out on the road right as you take off, it reminds me of a carbed truck that needs the choke turned off.
I just thought I would see if any one has any new ideas for me to try.
With the truck warm where does it idle with the IAC wires disconnected? And are
the TPS wires roughly pointing to the IAC? IF not you really need to set the tps
to read right with a multimeter(search setting tps voltage) You should have a non
comp idle at around 500-575 rpm then it should jump up when you plug in the IAC.
if the CEL is lit then a code will be stored. what method are you using to pull codes?
I have tried with three different diagnostic computers the KOEO and the KOER none of them can pull any codes. But the light will not stay lit. It only flashes when the engine revs up. When its through reving up the light stops flashing.
I had several people tell me it sounded like the tps was going bad so I replaced it and it did good for a few days then right back to the same old thing. It does it when its cold or hot motor nor climate temp seem to effect it.
I have a 95 5.8, and it's been doing almost the same thing for 9 months. the only difference is, it never dies. Once the high idle start thing quits, it runs normally. Additionally, it doesn't do it all the time. For instance, the last 2 days, no idle pop. 4 no idle pops in Jan, 8 NIP in Dec, 13 NIP in Nov...
No codes, just the flash as you describe.

Sounds like my truck, same exact symptoms. I ended up changing the MAP sensor out. Now granted that this is on a 92 F-150, but it should work on your truck as well.

Good Luck!
Sorry to jump the thread, but if might ask Fanboy something. Fanboy, what motor and how was yours acting during startup? One of the first things I did was clean the MAP. I didn't replace it, though.
