hi all, back to this again, well i changed my oil temp. sensor and that did not help. i need some input on this as it is getting worse and it's like 5* outside and i kind of need these things, they won't come on ti'll you cycle the key 3-4 times and sometimes you have to hit the starter be for they will come on? i checked the relay and it's not getting power? like a sensor is telling the pcm or it's just the pcm not turning them on??
maybe coolant sensor is bad. im sure you can measure the sensors instead of replacing them. im sure somone will chim in on the parameters when GP are turned on. but sounds like one of the sensors is telling your PCM that its worm,,,,,,or you have bad connection somwhere ..... im sure the schematic would help too. we can look it up cause i dont remember if the wire to activate GP is going straight from PCM or not...
Not getting power too the GPR or power coming out of the GPR? If you're worried about the sensor, unplug the EOT and turn the key on. That should make the PCM default to a glow plug on time of 2 minutes. Just don't drive around with the sensor unplugged.
I'm thinking the GPR is hooked directly to the batteries. There may be a fusible link in there somewhere. You'll just need to trace the hot lead from the GPR back to the battery and see if you can find a problem.
I'm pretty sure the wiring is different than on my 02. The wiring shows two fusible links inline with the power feed to the GPR and the AIH Relay. Not sure where they initiate. On my truck the power cable runs from the passenger battery to the GPR, AIHR and around to the alternator.
So if you have verified that the BIG terminals don't get power, then you have a main power feed issue. But you need to clarify some on what you mean by it's not getting power. The relay coil power feed comes from the same fuse that powers the PCM and a few other things. So if they are working, then it probably isn't a fuse or the PCM power relay.
The really good chance, if you haven't replaced it, and I didn't see that you did, is the GPR is bad. I really like the one from NAPA that bolts right in place. A lot of people like the stancor one, but I think the NAPA one is just fine, bigger and beefier and available anywhere there is a NAPA.
