heater ticking

I've got a 07 with 23000 miles on it. The heater is making a ticking noise. It sucks because it doesnt do it all the time. so i know if i took it in they wouldnt find anything. i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I was also wondering if the hood cowl being broke is a warrenty issue?thanks in advance.

Sounds more like the blower motor. Does the tick get faster as you speed up the blower motor? I'm not 100% positive the proper way to resolve the tick, I'd shoot some WD-40 in the blower motor directly, not through the HVAC intake.

You should have a bumper to bumper warranty, I don't see why the hood cowl cannot be fixed.

You mean one of the ***** is loose? which one? Behind each ****, each shaft is either circular or half circle. If it's half circle, make sure the **** lines up with the position of the shaft and it should go back into place.

Had a ticking in my wifes car heater motor, turned out to be a parking stub had fallen into the fan area. Cost me 80.00 to find that out.

Is it ticking when you change your mode(like vent to floor or defrost)? We've had problems with foam falling off the blend doors and lodging in the heater case causing a clicking type noise at first when your change your heater setting. eventually the foam clogs the door completely and you are unable to change out of whatever mode your were in...

Mine does the same thing, sounds like mouse doing Morse Code. It only does it after the truck warms up. It`s also hard to control the heat, to hot or it`s to cold.

I have the electronic controls. If you shut the heater off it slowly goes away in about 30 sec.

I`ve heard that there is a gear on the blend door that breaks and causes the noise. Havn`t checked it out yet, to cold.

It`s driving me nuts.

I have this exact same issue... the clicking seems to come from the center of the truck front dash and only seems to happen after it's warmed up pretty good. It doesn't matter if I have it on full cold or full hot (I have an XLT w/ the dial controls) and fan speed does not appear to affect it. However, one thing I do notice is that sometimes the temperature will get really high and I have to move the dial almost all the way to the cold... and it still doesn't get much cooler. blend door?

Anyone have any thoughts?

There is a TSB on this problem. Search this forum for "blend door", you should find the thread about it.

"Some 2005-2008 F-150 and 2006-2008 Mark LT vehicles equipped with Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) may exhibit intermittent periods of warm air output in Auto mode with the temperature control set between 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit (18-22 degrees Celsius). Some 2005-2008 F-150 vehicles equipped with Electronic Manual Temperature Control (EMTC) may exhibit periods where the cabin temperature cannot be maintained with the control ****. Some customers may also complain the heat cannot be reduced without rotating the control **** well into the Cool/Blue range."

Same exact issue I am having! Great! Thank you. I assume I can just pop in any Ford Dealer and have them replace this?

If you truck is still under warranty you can, if not, it will cost you!
There is a re-designed blend door that will resolve this problem.

Yes my truck is still under the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty until December of 2011 and I only have 5,200 miles on it. So the dealership should be able to replace this right? What's the easiest way to get them to replicate the problem and replace it? It seems that just using the truck and letting it warm up for more than 30 minutes or so definitely makes the problem come out.

Yeah, they should replace it. I would let it warm up and then take it to the dealer and let the service writer hear the noise. I had to take my truck to a second dealer before my noise was "heard". Hopefully, you will not have to "find" a dealer with a good serice department who actually cares about customer service whether the service is under warranty or not!
