I need some expert, or at least experienced, advice on exhaust system selection.
I have a F150, Ext. cab, w/ a 4.6L and a K&N FIPK. What I want to add is new ceramic coated headers with flow thru cats and run true dual pipes out the sides. Here is where my problems begin. First, what is the bset brand of headers, flow cats, and muffs for Fords? Second, What size pipe should I run with the system I am talking about? I hear all this stuff about back pressure and sound and the more I read the more confused I get. I don't want to make the truck loud, I would just like a mice deep tone. Mainly, I just want to get every ounce of HP, MPG, and Torque I can with bolt on ease. After I pay off the exhaust mods then I will "chip it."
Okay headers, nothing in particular in my opinion stick with manifolds, more economical and don't rust out as easy, but that depends on the climit you live in. the cats, Catco makes a very wonderful one very performance good product, (used to work for a muffler shop), probably 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 inch pipes, and some magnaflow mufflers, straight, through not too noisey but no bafolds to restrict the air flow.
hello! I have a 97 F150 with a 2 1/4" cat back (single in - dual out) flowmaster exhaust. Horsepower gain was only psycholoical. According to the exhaust specialist, a gain of about 4 horsepower was achieved, but it sounded great. Afterwards, I put in a set of JBA stainless steel headers (very expensive). I've noticed an increase in my fuel mileage (from 12-13.5 mpg), but performance-wise... nothing. However, it looks great. Hope this is useful.
