Has anyone replaced stock exhaust with headers, high flow cat pipe and a dual exhaust. If so how was the perfomance enhanced, and what type of headers and cat pipe did you use. If I can find headers and cat pipe, my exhaust shop can bend up the pipes needed and supply mufflers. 1995 Bronco, 5.0L.
Thanks
I have on my 03.Most people say with long tube headers/high flow cats and a true dual set up you will pic up 30 to 35 HP.
Good luck and it will sound bad azz.
mine does awsome and I did it all myself fabbed it all with bends from the shop Im runnin hedman headers cherry bombs and a custom x pipe I made and could feel the difference right away good luck also runnin 302
I installed Flow Tech Headers with 2 1/4" collectors then had a custom muffler shop install 3" , no cats , Flowmaster IIs , directing them out the sides just in front of the back tires. I bought the Magnaflow cats in case i needed them for emission inspections but Im able to keep less then 5000 miles a year so im exempt.
OHH 89 Full size Bronco was a 302(5.0) now its 351(5.8) and runs like a bat outta hell!!!!!!!!!!!
any good quality header like gibson, jba, edelbrock, bbk or bassani. shorties would work just fine and produce good numbers. i would then run a bassani Y pipe with hi flow cat and run 3" single exhaust out stock location. you will gain low end which for your 302 will help a bunch. duals on our rigs isnt necessary and doesnt provide the performance it would on a mustang for instance.
I think I amgoing with shorty headers, I don't know what kind yet, custom bent y pipe into one 3" magnaflow converter, possibly a magnaflow muffler and 3" single exhaust at stock location. depending on price, maybe all stainless.
how do you figure phil? shorties flow way better then stock manifolds and the technology today has improved them greatly compared to past years. long tube headers do provide more low end vs shorties but fitment of longtube headers can be a pain to install not to mention the added cost of having additional exhaust work to mate them. also for a fullsizebronco/f150 the routing of the exhaust with long tubes pos a problem around the tcase which in some cases has the exaust run just below the frame being suceptible to damage while offroading.
in a race application this would of course not be an issue.
Well they are a little better then stock but I was just thinking of the power. Unfortunately I have shorty's on my truck and they did not help with the power whatsoever. They are coming off and I have a set of long tubes lined up to go on.
They do hook up to you stock exhaust very nicely but are still a pain to put on.
So I guise I'm just down on them from the lack of power they produce.
so did you install the shorties and leave the rest of the exhaust stock? having the entire exhaust done from header to tail pipe will show the most gains. headers alone will not due to fords stock y pipe/cat setup which is the major restrictive peice.

ok so with that setup you can figure any power increase would be hi in the rpm range before you would notice anything. since your blown and sprayed long tubes would benefit you off the line for sure.
I sure hope so,,,there not cheap,,,lol.
A guy has a set of Kooks that was on his truck for only a couple days. Hes selling them to me for 700.There 1" and 5/8ths hes making more power then me and went with 1" 3/4ths
