Here's a past thread on additives.

"Article by FTE member: gchavez

The solar system lined up just perfectly where I had three identical 600 mile round trip runs from Tucson to El Paso with no load or trailer, so I decided to try out two DFAs. I fueled up at the same stations each time.

The first trip I ran straight pump fuel with no DFA of any kind.
75-80mph cruise speed (Tucson-El Paso) net 15.1 mpg
60-65 mph cruise speed (El Paso-Tucson) net 18.8 mpg

Second trip with Shell Rotella DFA.
75-80 mph cruise speed (Tucson-El Paso) net 15.5 mpg
60-65 mph cruise speed (El Paso-Tucson) net 19.8 mpg

Third trip with Diesel Kleen (grey bottle)
85-93 mph cruise speed (Tucson-El Paso) net 16.0 mpg
60-65 mph cruise speed (El Paso-Tucson) net 21.0 mpg

The last trip was pretty quick going out, I shouldn't have been driving so fast, it was just that the truck seemed to be running very well that it was hard to stay out of the throttle. There was a VERY strong headwind most of the way to El Paso, so I had to keep my foot in it to keep up the speed. Then the wind would die down for a bit and I would peek at my speed and it was stuck at 93 mph. I guess that's the fastest the truck will go.

Anyway, I think I'm sold on the Diesel Kleen product. ($10.99 per 96 oz at Flying J Truck Stop) About 3 mpg better fuel economy, easier starts, smoother engine and more power. Pretty cool stuff!

I run Power Services "Diessel Kleen" silver bottle.

Good luck!

I like Stanadyne Performance Formula. I like the fact that Stanadyne, a major fuel injector/fuel injector pump manufacturer makes this additive. It has a water de-mulsifier which causes water to drop out, this way the water fuel seperator can do its job. Also has Anti-gel properties.

2 cycle oil TCW-3 mixed at 1oz. oil to 1 gallon diesel works well too. But it won't have any water demulsifier or anti gel properties. You could use some white bottle Power Service mixed with this too.

Sorry, but I have a really hard time believing you got 16mpg running that fast with a headwind. How were these numbers calculated?

If you look close that was a past thread from a gchavez & you'd have to ask him, & I'd agree those look a little high.

My calc'd mpgs on my 04 - F350, 6.0L, CC, Duely, 4.10s is 18 to 19.5 on long trips freeway/city combination & 10.5 to 13 towing our 37 ft. 1/5 whl trailer (21000lb total weight).

Yeah, noticed that shortly after I posted. I get 16-17 mpg running 65-70 mph with a 4" lift, 35s, and 4.30s.

In a nutshell, they lubricate injectors, fuel pump, boosts cetane, removes water, and some have anti-gel for winter use.

FWIW, I filled up today and I got 15.475mpg on the last tank. It idles for 5 minutes in the morning to warm up and it's 21 miles each way to work. There was also some city and highway mileage to a couple of jobsites. I run Power Service in the white bottle in the winter.

I have been using DK and have notice some increased mpg
also grade of fuel are different, an exemple is sunoco regular Diesel has a minimum of 40 cetane and there Gold Diesel has a minimum of 45 cetane so I am trying both to see what the mpg difference will be also using DK.
Will update with results

i noticed a lot of mileage gain with the grey bottle diesel kleen. switched to stanadyne performance for one bottle, liked it but switched to the motorcraft stuff for the winter. not going to claim any numbers or gains on that until next summer when it's similar conditions as "normal" for me (warmer, not a lot of cold starts, idling, etc). but so far it's ok 'far as i'm concerned.

little more power, better mileage, runs smoother. why not? 'least that's what i say.
