Hello fellow Ford owners, I currently have a 03 6.0, love it. But im looking at buying a 2000 F-350 dually. It has about 314k on it , the guy has a lot of papers on it, as what has been done to it.
Over on the 6.O forum we have a oasis report that can be done, was wondering if you guys have the same thing here? Its 2wd, with a 9' flat bed, the vin number is : 3FDWF36F9YMA24372
Any advise would be great, I took it out for a ride, got on the intersate, went good. Not a 6.0 though! But anyway the guy only wants 3500 for it, sounds like a good deal, but would like to know if there is any hidden history, or issues that i should be looking out for.
I got the Oasis report for my '01 from the 6.0 forum. Not exactly extensive since it only shows dealer work. Was interesting to find out the spare tire carrier fell off when it was new.
There's alot of life in these 7.3s and 314k could be only half, or all, depending on how she was taken care of.
It's a diesel so you've got SCAs to deal with. Check them.
See how she starts cold too.
Is the intake OEM or something aftermarket? What about the air filter? Take off the intake boot from the turbo and look at the wheel. Hopefully it'll have sharp edges but should not be chipped up. If it's chipped up then that's no good and may have dusted your engine, but you drove it so that's not too likely.
Balljoints. Check 'em.
What modifications is he saying has been done? Or is it all just maintenance stuff that he has papers for? Any chip? Exhaust?
From what I could get out him, he has put stacks on it straight pipes. The tranny has a bully dog booster? He said it changed the pressure in the tranny to give it firmer shifts. He did put a kn filter in it ( i know those are bad!) has new water pump, he said something about the upper end being rebuilt, not sure if he was refering to the heads, or the injectors. My dad had to replace a few injectors on his, maby this what he was talking about? All the joints have been replaced with moog componets, with grease fittings. I didnt think to check dipsticks for blow by and burnt oil smell, wiill do that next time im down that way. Ill also check the turbo vanes while im at it. Im used to my 6.0 with a stick shift, and this one with the auto, feels reely laggy to me. But hey im told there is a world of difference tween the two. Hope this helps any, and thanks for the insight.
Well the stock 6.0 has much better low end pull.. (STOCK!) than a stock 7.3.
Check the turbo wheel.. Look underneath for oil.. or anywhere for oil. See what they did to the engine.
See what aftermarket there is. What was hauled w/ it.. Could be a good truck, but some upkeep maybe in the future. Good luck!
...the guy has a lot of papers on it, as what has been done to it.
Has all the work been done at a dealership? Is it local? If so, you can have him get a printout of all the work done from that dealership so you can see what it's been in for. Did that for mine and told me a lot more than the OASIS did (which was still tons better than the CARFAX)...just my .02
