I was going to put some chrome 6" stacks on my '84 GMC 7000 with the 8.2 turbo diesel. But then I found out the insurance on it was $7200 per year for the 32,000 GVW truck, plus i needed a CDL and airbrake endorsement. Glad I didn't know that when I was joyriding in it with all my friends, unliscensed, uninsured. Oh well live and learn
i've seen quite a few SWEET trucks with stacks my personal fav is a Dodge 3500 with the cummins 24 valve turbo with dual 4 inch stacks, then again i live in REDNECK capital of Pennsylvania
I think stacks can look pretty good, but IMO I'm tired of seeing twin 5" stacks on all these Super Duty and Dodge diesels...on a pickup truck 5" stacks are too damn big. 3.5" would look better.
Also the fact that you have to cut holes through your bed is probably enough for me to never get them.
I have twin 5" stacks on my 85 F-250, no mufflers. I must say, that it's a sound you just can't get with the pipe under the truck. The stacks act as echo chambers enhancing the sound at least for me anyway. I would like to see you fit 60"x5" tips under a truck. The only thing I cant haul in my truck is a slide in camper/shell. I already have a bumper pull camper, so I really don't care. Yeah, maybe I do wanna bigger truck, and I even wish mine was a diesel instead of a 460, but you know what, diesel or gas the exhaust sounds the same. Maybe I could get a CD of a diesel engine running to play while I drive and fool people. Just like the ricers kids and their turbo CD's. Love them or hate them, it's your truck do what you makes you happy. I could give a rats behind what anyone else thinks, I like my truck and the attention it gets.
By the way, I got my stacks from an e-bay store called chromeroom, cost me about $160 shipped. Compare that to $250 each from a truck dealer.
most of the ones i see are diesels, but i love the look and sound whether it gas or diesel, i would say more along the lines if you run gas 2 1/2 into 5" gives awesome sound and look or even the same with diesel so you dont have to cut as big a hole in your bed
whoever said stacks are just for looks and also just tailpipes... What else would they be for. Most highway tractors have the muffler under the truck same as the express. Stacks don't look right inside the box but on a flatdeck or a stepside they look great even better hooked to a worn out IDI or other tuned diesel. Jegs, Summit Racing and E-bay motors all have stacks listed. throw a set of Magnaflow mufflers infront of them and you have a fairly mean sounding truck.
