Help with Y Block Dist Identification

I am getting ready to install a Petronix Ignitor and was thinking... The 272 Y Block engine in my 55 F100 was rebuilt and the previous owner could have installed a 57+ or the 54-56 Distributor and I do not know which one it is. Any Idea?

Are you aware that 272 Y-Blocks were not available on 55 F100's?
Std. was 239. A 256 was available on F600 and 279 on F750.
All 55 engines were either yellow or red.

I believe you may be correct. My VIN Plate states that the engine is a Code V which according to the VIN info at clubfte, is in fact a 239. I did look at the Block and found the Code ECG which I believe would be a 272. I pulled the valve covers last weekend and found the engine looks very very clean, so I surmise the engine must be rebuilt.

Now if I could just figure what Distributor I have I would be set

Is there a part number or casting number on the distributor?
And it looks like it has been worked on by the new type rubber booted lead wire.

the early "load-o-matic" distributors had two springs visible as soon as you removed the cap. I don't see the springs, I'm going to go ahead and say 57+

I could not see any casting number, but its hard to tell as its installed. It does say motorcraft inside of the Dizzy.

No casting or part numbers on dizzies, only Ford ID numbers.

Motorcraft = replacement Y block dizzy. Motorcraft did not exist before 1972.

Look on the curved part of the base for a STAMPED ID number, something like this: C3TF-12127-AA.

My guess is, you have a 1957/64 272/292 distributor.

Does anyone have a picture of the inside of a 54-65 Dizzy to compare the two?

Got an answer... Found a site that has a picture of the 54-56 Distributor. There are infact two springs that can be seen if you remove the cap. here is a picture from PerTronix Ford Applications Thanks all for the great advice!!!

There are two springs on the 1957/64 292 dizzies also.

If you get the ID number off your present dizzy, I can ID it.
