Brake Controller Install - Pics

Seeing you guys like pictures I thought you might like to see how my brake controller was installed on my '04 F250 for our last trip. It was originally intended to only be temporary but I now like the idea for a permanent setup. We don't travel that much with the travel trailer and it's very easy to plug in the controller and wedge into the "cubby hole" with some foam scraps. The location seems perfect and easy to reach. I was pleasantly surprised that it stayed in place despite some very bumpy roads. The cable just tucks behind the dash between use.

Looks good. I did that to, but I drilled a 1" hole for my connector, in the back of the cubby.(its a prodigy controller) I used some 2 sided tape for the quick release mount, worked good. I was taking it out between trips, but got to lazy, & so it stays there year round !

I must have bought the only 2005 SD with upfitter switches and no brake controller. I found that the Prodigy slid in quite nicely in the cubby for the factory controller and looks as if it were built in.

I guess I am different than you, because I like mine permanently mounted, down low, out of the way.

That would bug me every time I drove the truck.

Velcro sounds like a good idea. I'll give that a try the next time.

Yes, the install isn't good looking but it's functional. I thought about a lower mounting but I wanted to keep the manual brake lever within an easier reach.

Here are some pics of my P3 on my 04'. The milled the mount out of a chunk of aluminum. I can reach the lever with my seatbelt on and I have the seat all the way back.

dkf - Nice install, particularly the bracket but I thought the P3 (controller) had to be level. Has it not been an issue for you?

Thanks.

It has to be level in certain ways. You can find the mounting details in the manual that came with the controller. http://www.tekonsha.com/instructions...881A%20web.pdf The unit is directional so it needs to be level side to side and level with the line of travel but front to back angles are ok. The sensor levels automatically. Have been using it for well over a year on several trailers and thus far its worked great. Its a very nice controller.

It sounds like I ended up with the same install as Chris60.

The Prodigy controller with it's original mounting bracket in place wedged quite nicely into the the cubby in my '99 dash. No velcro or anything required! Almost like it was made to fit.... The '99 cubby is pretty wide, so I pushed it all the way to left side and still have room to put wallet or sunglass case alongside the controller as well.

Just drilled a hole in the back to pass the wires through and gently but firmly pushed it into the cubby until wedged solidly in place. The manual lever and adjustment wheels remain accessible.

The manual brake lever falls readily to hand, I really like it. With the Equal-i-zer, I have never needed it in a panic situation, but it is nice to know it would be right where my hand expects it.

I would have liked to put my controller in the cubby pocket. My dad has the Prodigy so I compared my P3 to his Prodigy. The P3 is thicker than the Prodigy so I would have had to make a new lever in order to get the P3 to fit in the cubby.

it works good for me. i have a bench seat up front w/ me the wife and three kids, sometimes someone is sitting up front in the middle (sometimes kids need to be seperated)so anything lower than the cubby is no good for me. it will get kicked.

I just used the supplied bracket and mounted my prodigy below the cubby hole. I can reach it while driving with no problems.
