upper consol
i have an 01 f250 superduty v8 5.4lt. my upper consol where is tells me how many miles until empty, and average mpg is never consistant when i fill up my fuel tank. it sumtimes tells me 242 miles till empty. when i filled up last week it told me 230 and i just filled my tank and it is at 225 but my fuel gauge in at full and my tank will not take anymore fuel.. anyone know what may be the problem??

My understanding is It is a computer, that compiles info from a vacuum reading, (now from pcm). That is why when you go up a hill your getting 8 mpg and down your getting 45 mpg. The info gathered is based on your last tank of fuel, and its consumption. Factors involved include, Idle to warm up, towing , heavy excelleration, ect...
I have never known those to be accurate. My buddys dodge is the same way. One time he drove 1 extra day to and from work and it showed 0 miles left till empty.
I had one on a car many moons ago and it drove me nuts, never again.
