I would say that I have a few mods. My truck has been in the shop a total of 3 times in 2 years. It needed a crossover pipe, #1 injector, and a reflash. Other than that 2 new batteries this year. I have a 06 with 55k on it. I hope to have this truck another 10 years and well over 100k. I usually never keep my trucks over 4 years but I love this one and after lurking around the 6.4 forum I am just not willing to give up what I have.

Do modded trucks have more issues, maybe, but how many of those issues are caused by the owner abusing the truck. Like Bismic stated be smart and you can increase reliablitly. Oh and I still have the original EGR, EGR Cooler, Oil Cooler, and Head Gaskets. Most of my mileage is towing, and long road trips...lately been doing some city driving.

I feel the same way about mine. Been lurking in the 6.4 forum too and while I like the new trucks, it's hard to justify trading right now. Mine has been great and I really would rather keep it (not that I don't like the 6.4 and '08-'09 trucks). Other than batteries, and 2 warranty claims that were non-powertrain, it's been outstanding.

Sinse I've owned it, I've replaced the turbo, ball joints, and tie rod end. Will need to replace the 'autolocking' hubs sometime soon. Oasis says it has had most of the injectors replaced, and rocker arms re-assembled due to improper assembly at the factory??

All in all, been a pretty good truck *knock on wood*

All the 6.0L's i have come in contact with have had issues but two. Mine and my ex-uncle's 04. His is at 115,000 with only a driveshaft issue and mine has 44k with only the instrument cluster replaced. All the others i come in contact with arent maintained properly (extended oil and fuel filter change intervals, tons of idling, cranking it up and putting the pedal to the floor before the oil even gets to where it needs to be, running them like dogs at max gcwr then stoping them and immediately shut them down before the turbo can cool down, and the list goes on and on.) They always dog my truck and tell me its a piece of s*&t, but then ask me why mine has been so good? ITS CALLED MAINTENANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed completely! Maintenance is vital to these engines.

My 2005 has been properly maintained since new. Everything done by the book at a reputable Ford dealer. I do the oil and fuel filters myself. It never idles more than a few minutes when hooking/unhooking the 5th wheel. I never get on it until it is warmed up. I use motorcraft additive every tank and I buy the fuel from high volume stations.
As far as I know from reading here I have done everything I need to do to maintain the truck.
Why have I had so many problems? (EGR valve, HPOP, one injector, FICM, oil and egr cooler).
I still have a weird surging that 2 dealerships can not fix.
I agree maintenance is critical, but things happen even when they are maintained.

I'm not saying that things can't happen to a well maintained 6.0. I was agreeing with the point that was being made about poor maintenance being a contributing factor in some of the 6.0 problems.

Simple. Its because the motor was assembled after lunch break on a Friday afternoon.

It happens is all i can say. The 7.3L has an awesome reputation for being reliable but the ex-uncle i mentioned above had a few things go wrong with his and moved into to the 6.0L i talked about and has had zero motor issues. Its a crazy world we live in i tell ya! I am not going to lie to ya and say there werent some just pure "lemon" 6.0's. But a large majority of the issues were due to a lack of knowledge by techs that just throw parts at them to fix em or an owner who doesnt know how to properly maintain them.

Maintainace!

well less see, I change my oil/filter every 5,000 and my fuel filter every 10,000, thats earlier than suggested by ford . I get all my fuel from the same station( truck stop). My truck has been in the shop for something or another every 5 months since I bought it. Its 2 years old and its been in the shop 6 times ,3 different dealers, each time with something different, twice it came in on a rollback.Lets just say my truck has been well looked after.
I love my truck, Its my first diesel and my first Ford. I really think this trucks problems is alot of inferor parts like fuel pumps,FIMC,rear main seal, egr and head bolts. 90% of the post are all problems with the afore mentioned parts. think about it?
All trucks have problems its a matter of fixing them as they show up. But this model does seem to have more than others. I don't know if I will keep my truck past its warrenty, I don't know if I will be able to afford the "maintainace" it is required, at the rate its breaks down.

As for the surging problem I had that to its the control valve on the turbo it as an acronym like VGT I think, my truck ran out fine but would surge at steady speed but not under acceleration.

I have a 2003 Excursion with the 6.0 so far no problems but I've only put 385 855 Kms on it so far.
The importance of regular fluid changes can not be stressed enough with these engines, dont be cheap! Your spending good money on your vehicle get the good oil, use the Diesel kleen etc.
