Trans Problems
OK I installed a used tranny in a buddies 98 Explorer, I am getting a output shaft sensor code, the trans is shifting all funny, but it isn't consistant, not doing the same thing all the time. Were is this sensor, I thought it was on the transfer case, and is this why it is shifting funny?? I hooked me scarrer up to it while driving, there is no reading for that sensor. Thanks, Tim

Dont know if yours is the same, but on a 97 4R70 the OSS is 70 % back from the bellhousing & 1/2 way up the drivers side of the trans.
Same on the 5R55 but it's near the top drivers side.
2 wire connector gray/red & dark blue/yellow

Heres what the 97 EVTM has to say about the OSS.
"The frequency from this sensor supplies the PCM with output shaft speed information. This information is used in determining shift scheduling, torque convertor engagement schedule and EPC pressure."
So yeah, you need to find out whats up with that sensor.
