Hello all! I am new to FTE but have been whatching from the sidelines for a while. It look like there are some pretty smart people on here so I thought I would try to pick your brains. I have a 1994 F-250 with the 7.3 IDIT and an E4OD trans. I have been having trouble off and on with the shifting and the OD light flashing. I have replaced the FIPL, and the VSS sensors and got rid of the trouble for a while. Now it is back to the same as before but now I am getting KOER dtc 50. I have not been able to find this code anywhere. Anyone seen this code and can tell me it's discription?
50 is the cylinder ID code for diesel only shown during the KOER test. I would actually need the engine VIN code (8th character) and whether or not it is 4wd to give you the complete list.
Ok, looking at my information you've got the oddball turbo diesel. 94 had 3 diesels listed, NA, IDIT and DIT. For some reason I have no listing for the engine DTCs, just transmission DTCs. Here is the complete list. The 50 I referred to was from the DIT engine codes, I'm sure that should still apply. The scans are in order, the 5 pages AllData takes to list them.

hey now.it's not that odd.

the idi engines, were old school.not a computer controlled engine.
the only idi trucks with a pcm were E40D equipped trucks, but that's just for the trans alone.
are you sure, your getting a "50" trans code thamidi?
snap a pic of your engine, would ya?
perhaps you misread the VIN,or you have a '94 idi truck with a PSD swap.be good to rule it out.
I should have remembered that. I tried to buy a 94 F250 super cab in Feb 94, the diesel automatics were "balanced out" according to Beach Ford. I could have a diesel 5 spd or a 460 auto if I wanted. My brother in law has probably the same truck, an F250 4X4 super cab with an IDIT diesel.
Thanks for all of the info. I am sure about the vin code K. My truck (from what i'm told) is one of the last IDIT's Ford built and it has the EEC-IV but it is really only for the trans. I have done a little research and from what I understand mid 1994 they started putting some PSD's in the 5 speed trucks and the remaining IDI's in the ones with the E4OD's. I always have trouble when I go to get parts. I am getting pretty tired of the tranny problem, I have had this truck about 1 year and this keeps popping up.
I ran a scan on it again and had no alarms this time. Not sure what I did wrong but it is ok now. Took it for a drive and all seems to be ok for now.
As far as my truck being an odd ball I guess you could look at it that way. I have done some looking around at different trucks and some of the trouble with them and I am pretty happy with the IDI. As far as the IDI motor goes really does not get any simpler than this, as long as the IP has power and is pumping fuel (or waste oil, veggy oil, or just about any other liquid that is flamible) the engine will run. The only issue that gets frustrating is the E4OD trans. Really would love to swap it for a ZF 5 or 6 speed but I guess that will have to wait for now.
Thanks again for your help,
Tim
thamidi, i think your misreading the code.but anyway,if it's intermittent, start by pulling the solenoid pack plug on the pass side of the trans.inspect the wires, replace the plug if need be,otherwise clean it with brake cleaner and then use dielectric grease and make sure it fully snaps back in.
if this doesn't solve the issue, your out nothing as it could ovoid future issues anyway.
side tip;
always tell the parts guy, you have a '93.
no more getting home with power stroke parts.

I agree with you but I did have the code but not sure what I did to get it anyway that is why I re-ran the scan. I just got my scanner so it was most likely operator error. I took it and had the scans read and it haq a VSS error code so I replaced the VSS. I bought my own scanner because the guy I took it to before said it took 6 hours to pull the codes out of it. I sure was surprised when I got my own scanner and pulled them in less than 10 min (not counting warming up the motor). Anyway I have done what you suggested already but may get some dielectric grease and do it again.
As of a few weeks ago I started telling everyone it is a 93...and it does help.
Thanks for your input with this,
Tim
