Funny feeling

I just bought a 2009 F-150 4x4 with the 6-speed trans. I haven't had a ford for some time and it feels funny when it shifts from 1st to 2nd. All the other shifts feel nice and tight. I feels like it lags or is in neutral for a second or two. I don't know if this is normal or if I should have the dealership check it out. Any suggestions?

That was going to be my first move, I just wanted to check and see if it was normal operation before I take it up there and look stupid

Turbo--mine does it too. It's kind of a "lazy shift. If you're concerned, just floor it and you'll find the truck shifts fine. Ford's six speed is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Also...give it some time. The trans will learn how you drive and adapt over a period of time. I too thought the transmission was a little "soft" on some shifts the first couple of days after bringing home my 09 FX4. It learned my driving habits pretty quickly and has been fine for over a year now.
