Another Dual Question

I'm in the middle of transplanting a 400M into my '78 F250 Supercab and am wondering how I should route my exhaust. I would like to have the exhaust dump out on each side before the rear tires. Problem is this - I've got dual fuel tanks and the front tank takes up all the room so I can't run exhaust straight down the driver side.

Has anyone ran into this problem and what was the remidy?

Thanks,

Cap

Another Dual Question

I put duals on my 54 with a Mustang 5.0 engine. I ran the drivers side over to the passenger side just past the trans, ran side-by-side duals back to the rear axle, then over to exit on the drivers side. I dont know if you have enough room to exit behind the front tank and in front of the rear tires though.
If you want to see the pictures of my exhaust, go to www.winfordr.com, select the truck exhaust link. It's a little slow (the web site, not the truck) but you can see how I did it. Actually, I had some help from the muffler shop.

Another Dual Question

Really there aren't many choices. You could see if fenderwell headers are available for your truck. Another way would be to run the exhaust down the passenger side then send it out over the rear axle towards the sides. I am not a fan of over the axle exhausts unless the tubing is large diameter or it's mandrel bent. The easiest way is both out the passenger side before the rear tire. On my firt truck I had the exhaust on the drivers side and hated going through drive ins. I always had to shut the truck off because the pipe pointed right at the speaker. Something to think about. On my 73 F350, I used 2 90 degree mandrel bent elbows from JC Whittney to get the exhaust on the passenger side. Then mounted the mufflers vertical, side by side, and used 2 more 90 degree elbows to exit the exhaust. A muffler shop can weld this all up and do the minor bends. Use 2 1/2" tubing. Remember, the less ram style bends the better.

Another Dual Question

I had the same issue with my 86. I ended up having an exhaust shop run a pipe from the stock manifold collector through to the outside of the frame rail, where it runs back through a cat and muffler and exits at a 45 degree angle in front of the rear tires. The passenger side pipe runs inside the frame with the same exit point. It was the only way around the fuel tank issue and it works very well.

Hope this helps.
