dual exhaust conversion

I would like to put dual exhaust on my 1979 F-100 302 but the side gas tank is in the way for it to go straight out the back, i like having 2 tanks but i really want dual exhaust whats the best way to do it. should i just have both sides come out right around the cab corners and put some tips on it or something?

ok you can run it like a 4wd. have the left bank crossover to the right and then back before it exits. This works well when the exhaust exits out the side behind the tire. And it can work when exiting out the back.

dual exhaust

Dude check out the flowmaster website. I am sure they have a kit for that truck. If not take it to your local Meineke and they will set you up with an awesome flomaster system, or cherry bombs if you want to go cheesy.

You still have several options.
1. Fender well exit hedders going to chrome sidepipes ending at the cab corner
2. Fenderwell exit hedders to exhaust pipes and mufflers.
3. Cross the drivers side to the passenger side at the bellhousing. Then go duals to the back. Exit in front or behind the passenger tire.
4. Zoomies exiting through two holes in the hood. :-)

Dude dont go with fenderwell headers. the first time you take the truck in the mud the headers will get trashed because the mud will bake on the pipes. If you want to make your truck look custom go with a kit from a company or muffler shop. Dont try to rig a system in your truck. by the way zoomies are out.

Just do what I did. Look at LMC on page 109 of their latest catalog. They have a exhaust system that places both exhaust lines down the passengers side. You get a choice of turbo mufflers or glass packs either $169.95 or $139.95.
Comes with all the stuff you need (hangers screws etc.) The system is for an 8' bed if yours is a 6' just hacksaw 2' off the extension pipes.
Sure was a lot cheaper than my local Midas they wanted $700.00 to replace my system

I have dual tanks and dual exhaust on both my trucks. The one you seem to want is my '78 with 351M regular cab long box.

Both pipes travel together on the right side, then just before the axle, they split off and each goes over the axle and out each side. I can give you pics if you want.
My '76 supercab 460 is a home made exuhaust I built. I run the pipes together on the right side, then run them out the passenger side before the wheel. I had them turned down before the axle, but the sound reflected back up and resonating through the cab was terribly droning. So, they stick out the side together now, and they sound awesome!

You might check my gallery for an idea on running both pipes down the side, while it is not an early ford, you get the idea.

Hey ,
You could rig up something like I have on my truck, I have dual tanks and dual exhaust. The way mine is routed it goes beside the tank that resides up front, then it just splits into duals before the rear axel. Looks great, sounds great, and no problems. I can post pics if you'd like at my gallery.

i have duals from headers on my 78 f250 supercab. bought the duals from jc whitney for 119.00. all i did was cut the manifold bends off and hooked the right into my headers. tyou cna cut the bends off and tehy will run righ tunder your gas tank leavign you like 3 or 4 inches bellow it. they also give you mufflers and the hardware. was cheaper than a custom job.

hope i could help.

What if you ran twin 2 1/2" pipes into a single muffler with a 3" outlet that exits the rear passenger side? I've thought about this for my truck, and it seems like you would have similar flow. Any thoughts on that?

i would tell you were i got the exhaust and save you alot of time and hunting. But it seems that the people who run this site, wont let you tell someone were to find a part. which seems to me the whole reason you place a post, To help.
