Recently, when I have done a search I get results from all of the sub-forums instead of just the 7.3 forum which I specified when submitting the search. I am not interested "fuel pressure" for a 6.0 or 1947 Ford. What is up with that? Anyone else experiencing this or is there something I am doing wrong? I am pretty computer literate and have not changed anything in my settings? Thanks
There have been a few issues with the new software upgrade. This is one of the items that was mentioned. They are working on a fix.
Fuel pressure on the 7.3 usually runs 50 - 65 psi stock. You can shim it up to 70 psi with no negative consequences. I don't know what the fuel pressure on the 47 Ford was.
I hope the admin makes that stupid "thanks for posting" page go away as well... search has been on the fritz for a while, I'm sure they'll get it fixed eventually.

What makes you so special Chase? I don't get a thanks for posting when I say something. Are you running IE or Firefox?
thanks guys for the input; I'm using Firefox but sounds as though that is not the problem.
Anyway, I was looking for fuel pressure to see if my intermittent shut-off of the engine at idle was the result of a malfunctioning fuel pump. I have no codes and everything else is hunky-dory. It's either the CPS or the fuel pump. It has a brand new gray CPS in it although I just got my black one from Jody and I'll change it out soon as I have time to see if this is the problem.
How long do the fuel pumps on the 7.3s last and is it a common problem for fuel pressure to go down over time?
Most of the time a fuel supply problem will become evident under load or high rpm's, not at idle. The fuel pump is an on or off type pump. It always pumps the same amount of fuel. The excess fuel not needed by the engine is returned to the tank through the FPR (fuel pressure regulator).
If the truck gives you any signals before it dies, you can try opening the fuel drain valve just before it stalls to see if you're getting a good steady stream of fuel out of the drain tube. The other option would be to turn the key off immediately after the truck dies and take the lid off the fuel filter bowl to see if it's still full.
If it only does this at idle, I wouldn't think it's the fuel pump. Have you checked the basics? Oil full & clean? Air & fuel filter good?
thanks Chris, I will check the fuel bowl as you suggest.
Air filter great. Fuel Filter changed about 1,000 miles ago. Oil full. Oil changed 3.5k miles ago - due about now. Using Rotella 15W-40. No signals given by the truck.
Looks like I can eliminate the fuel pump. Would a brand new CPS give this kind of a problem?
There's no telling what the CPS is capable of, so that's always a possibility, but a CPS failure should give you a CEL (at least for a short while after it dies).
